Hope 3.0.2 is not too bad? Quite satisfied with the Switch with or without homebrew.
I am not gonna update the firmware but it does not allow me to use a microSD card nor sign in with an account without updating. What can I do?

Is this trick fully reliable or isn't it always right?
Pretty reliable, at least to the point that you can pinpoint it to one or two possible firmwares.

3.0.2 is still good, shouldn't be a problem. To use your big microSD and the account you need to update to newest firmware, no way around.

Was trying my luck at different stores and have a 3.0.1 3.0.2 and a 4.1.0 should i keep the lowest firmware or does it not matter as it's in the range?

What if you format it on a second switch with a higher firmware? Will the lower firmware switch still not recognize or be able to use it until you update?

I think the problem is that the Switch uses ExFAT to mount larger microSD. ExFAT was developed by Microsoft and M$ wants licensing fees for every Switch sold. To cut costs Nintendo only activates the ExFAT mounting protocol if the Switch was online, and to go online you need to update. That way Nintendo need to pay licensing fees only if the Switch is used and not for their unsold stock.

Damn, that's lame. So how big of a SD card can I use without using ExFAT? 64 gb?

edit: digging around a bit it seems like a bigger card will work if I use FAT32 to format it. I'll try that when my card arrives.

I found two Nintendo switches. One is being sold as an emu Nintendo switch at a vintage video game store and it has the date 9 13 2017. The other one has been at Best Buy for a while and has the serial number xaw70013439685. What should I try to get if I want a Nintendo switch with version 3.0 firmware or lower? Both are gray consoles by the way

Is this a first...?
Definitely doesn't look like a refurbished/returned item.

Sad...now I don’t know what to do, 2 weeks later even more so...to order or not to order a grey switch from amazon (mainland Europe)...was hoping for 4.1...

You can just try and ask if they can power on the switch to check the firmware. In any case the most important thing is RCM mode... I mean if the motherboard is still affected by that even a 5.0.x firmware is ok... Better if you try something old but isn't that critical...

So I found a guy who was selling new ns but in a damaged packaging. I asked him about the serial number and thx to this topic I knew it should've been 1.0.0. He also told me he never turned it on. Only once (no setup) to see if it was working.

He still has 2 more but haven't asked him about the serial of these.

Got another one just for future homebrew. Worse luck this time with a 4.1.0.
Hopefully, it's gonna be exploitable eventually?
