Greetings.

I’ve recently bought a used copy of Breath of the Wild which, to my surprise, came as a launch revision of the game.
The problem I now have is, that said game, requests an update, on an fw 3.0.1 console, that has never been online before. I also tried the game on a 5.0.1 console, but interestingly, it won’t work there either.

According to the, pinned,“required firmware”-thread, this shouldn’t be the case.

My, rented, copy of BotW, with the code that ends in “001” on its back, works flawlessy on my 3.0.1 and 5.0.1 console.

Does anyone know what’s going on here?

The 001 copy of the game is the problem. The switch "saves" what the latest update of a game is onto the console.
And because of that, the game will be unplayable until you download the update for the 000 copy.

No, you can only fix it by downloading the update (or CFW/Nand Mod).
But of course there is no point in staying on 5.0.1, just update to latest and play the game on that console.

The thing is, that I started playing on my 3.0.1 console. Restarting isn’t an option for me.

You have 3 options:

1 - Get yourself a 001 copy of the game.
2 - Wait until a solution presents itself in the future (example: CFW).
3 - Restart anyway even though you believe it's not an option. Go beyond what you believe is possible.

I hope that helped, good luck.

If it's not to late, swap the 000 for the rented 001 cartridge.
Already thought about that. That would be fraud though.

I guess I’ll just return the game and buy a new copy of the game. That way I should receive a „001“ copy

It would not be Fraud at all your switching a game for a game its not like your switching a non working game for a working game.

It's a legit copy for a legit copy.

But I guess the more moral route would be to return the used and buy a new one.

Don't have this issue myself, but curious if doing a full factory reset (erase everything including saves and albums) would clear the update nag?

Would a reset of the console fix that issue?

I guess that means no.

it's not fraud, they won't notice it, or even if they do, you can always come up with "ho my cousin was here in the weekend, did bring the game and accidentaly swapped"

(this shit actually happened to me in the game boy era :C i couldn't tell which cart was mine or my cousins and there is a 50% change we traded lol)

but as stated before, just update :D

LUL fraud you're switching the same game, that's it nothing else.

during ps2 days if my game got scratched, i would go to blockbuster, rent the same game and switch the disk.

dont worry block buster deserved it :D:D:D

Since this is all about BOTW, may I ask, can someone confirm if this box art has the 000 copy. Because my switch was originally on 2.3.0 but had this copy of botw and it's 002 already so I had to update to 4.1.0.

The reason I ask is because I'll be buying another switch and I'll have the courtesy of choosing a free game again. I want to know if by choosing the first one, I'll be guaranteed 000 copy.

No. The two covers you linked are the European and American covers, they have no correlation to the cartridge version whatsoever.

So there's really no indication how we can distinguish what cart version is inside unless we look at the cart itself, huh? Great.

Thanks anyway.
