I've got a Nintendo DSi (1.4.5E Firmware) and two R4 Gold Pro 2018 cards and I can't get either to work.
I thought at first it was a problem with the card, so the seller sent me another one and this has the same problem.

I've got a handful of different Sandisk cards, 16gb being the smallest, and 64 the biggest. All are the Red/Grey cards.
Latest firmware extracted and copied to root on the SD card, not in a folder.

Put it in my NDSi and it shows the Bomberman Touch icon, but selecting it gives me the "An error has occurred" message.

Even trying the card with no card in gives the same result. I'd have expected it to say "No Card" or similar.

I've tried the YS kernel too, but that does the same thing.

:(

You need the kernel, firmware and kernel are not the same (but sometimes the sites mislabel them...)
The kernel should have a lot of files whereas the firmware is only one file.
I don't think that would cause that error though. That error suggests the DSi is not even trying to boot the cart. It's the same error you would get with a blacklisted cart but since it's the 2018 version it should work out of the box.
