We were told a while ago that if Sega Ages sells well it'll get updated to include Saturn and Dreamcast games. I never owned a Saturn back in the day, didn't even know what the fuck it was. I'm going to assume that most of it's library hasn't aged well and while the games were fun back in their day as technology and gaming have evolved most of them are no longer worth your time. But even as hardware has evolved to allow deeper gameplay and superior technical performance, unique games have an ageless quality in them because their gameplay hasn't been built upon by newer games in the same genre. So this leads me to say that there are a handful of Saturn games still worth playing, even if they're pixelated and low-poly as fuck.

- NiGHTS
- Panzer Dragoon
- Dragon Force

What games do you think are still worth playing and why?

It's hard to say for me if it's worth someones time that plays it for the first time today. It's very different when nostalgia plays zero role.

Panzer Dragoon Trilogy, Saga is one of the few turnbased RPGs I've enjoyed. There are a bunch of Shmups so if you're into that there's a lot to play, Story of Thor 2 I think was fun, I don't think it's that highly regarded though. There's also Guardian Heroes.

I have no idea about the state of Arcade emulators for the Model 2. But Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2 are two awesome games (Virtua Cop 1 & 2 are also fun)... on the other hand, someone who is bothered by low poly count might not find the two player splitscreen in Sega Rally bearable.

Burning Rangers was a pretty interesting game you can't play anywhere else, but not a must to have experienced exactly.

It's been years since I've had my Saturn hooked up to my TV now, and I have a hard time remembering what other games there could be that aged well not already mentioned.

Off the top of my head...
  • Radiant Silvergun (Japan-only)
  • Megaman X4 (also on on PS1)
  • Fighters Megamix
  • Fighting Vipers
  • Panzer Dragoon Series
  • Burning Rangers
  • NiGHTS into Dreams
  • the myriad of arcade ports the Saturn received (Street Fighter Alpha, KOF96, Waku Waku 7, just to name a few)

Honestly, since I never really owned a saturn, It's not really my place to say, just know about the games from multiple ports rather than actually owning it. I had playstation and nintendo 64 and dreamcast. I never played nights and i have it on ps3 and steam due to buying bundles rather than intentional. Your best bet is to watch some youtube videos, even if it's speedruns, but I have some suggestions still, but can't think of some exclusive game that would make me want to own one in this day and age that I can't get more easily without expending lots of money for the console. In the end, my personal opinion, it was just sega's attempt to put a arcade board into a home game console and make arcade ports rather than home console games like nintendo and playstation was doing.

Most of the saturn games I know was mostly fighting games and Japan exclusive, while least the playstation ones was in english. For example, Castlevania symphony of the night on saturn has Maria as playable character but not on playstation. (Even on the psp dracula x port, she been modified and a extra area is missing) Grandia also on saturn had probably better load times but the playstation still managed to be okay experience, not sure what else is different, and also Lunar silver star.

Mostly the fighting games like Virtual Fighter 2 or kids, Fighting vipers, Fighters Mega mix Golden axe the duel, not to forget the marvel vs capcom games and Street fighter Alpha games, and darkstalkers by Capcom, perhaps Policenauts by Konami (Unofficial translation exist if you can patch the iso before burning a disc) and probably Daytona USA, it has more tracks on the game than the arcade version.

Some games I never played but did see mention a lot, Clockwork knight, Burning Rangers Guardian Heroes, thunder force V, Virtual Cop 1&2, House of the Dead, Legend of Oasis, (prequel to beyond oasis which is a genesis game) and Magic Knight Rayearth which was localized by Working Designs before it went out of business, they have some of the best quality localizations, except every game they touch always increases the difficulty to absurd degree. You can read about it in my POPFUL MAIL Review for Sega CD. :)

And if you want to play it safe, you can get some ports like Sonic Jam which is just a compilation of Sonic 1-2-3 with Sonic & Knuckles featuring lock on technology for all of them and some game mods like easy mode. Gradius Collection, mega man x 4, mega man 8 or even Puyo Puyo which I'm sure you know by now if you have already heard of Puyo Puyo tetris by now.
