No - the bootrom exploit was ALREADY complete. Just behind a disclosure window until a different hacker breached it and therefore put it in the public domain.

This doesn't affect the timeline of Atmosphere from what i gather - it'll just be ready when it's ready. Give it a month i reckon.
Oh ok. Fine by me.

Since Fail0verflow has released the Bootrom Exploit, I read on some news, that it isn't patchable by firmware. So I ask: Can we update to FW 5.0.1 and can get the CFW by only using software or do we have stay on 4.1.0?

Stay on 4.1.0 until we have some concrete details. IIRC, Kate said something about there being 4 different camps for exploits. Those with 1.0, those who have anything up to 3.0, then 4.1.0, and then 5.0+.
If you had anything above 4.1.0 then upgrade all the way. But if you're on 4.1.0, I reckon you should stay there for now.

short summary for pre-Mariko units:
1.0.0: has a nice non-coldboot solution, and is the most likely to get a Holy Grail CFW-launching exploit in the future
<3.0.1: has enough power to avoid a hardmod immediately, even if you'll probably want to just do the hardmod 'cuz the hardmod's so easy
<=4.1.0: will eventually see a hardmod-less solution, but will need that 'minor hardmod' at launch
>4.1.0: that 'minor hardmod' is required; though we may find a solution to avoid this in the future

So just for recapping, as of right now, there's no advantage in particular (besides Homebrew) in staying in 3.0? and that could change at some point?

Yes, there is an advantage!! At FW 3.0.0 the "hardmod" is not required for the exploit. However no softmod-solution has been released as of now.

That is one of the things that struck me as weird since everybody regardless of firmware started shorting their Joy-Cons or Switches even though anyone on firmwares 3.0 supposedly had software methods of loading the exploit. I wonder why they didn't release the software method? It must be patched out in some capacity since they also stated that anyone above 3.0 would require hardmod when the exploit was supposed to be released and a software equivalent coming out after an indefinite amount of time.

I am wondering if we will ever be able to sign and flash our own CFW" Something a bit like Sighax on 3ds. Exemple, boot on atmosphere 1 time get needed keys and file then be able to directly boot on CFW without doing the exploit again. I am suspecting this will not be possible in the near future...Sorry for the lack on understanding every aspect of all this but i am just asking ;)

Best thing is this exploit is permanent albeit having to be tethered in later versions so you're never completely locked out like on the 3DS for good chunks of time

The TODO comments in the source code would say otherwise. Whether those will actually be done is another matter.

I'm pretty sure Kate Temkin said her work was already completed (multiple times). Hence the one press commit and boom the repo lives.

The disclosure agreement that Kate has with NVidia sounds like it restricts her to releasing methods either after a certain date or after the same method has been released by someone else. The only one that's leaked so far is the tethered "hardmod", so we gotta wait a bit on software

Nobody knows yet. Might be weeks. Might be months.

By then I’d probably be on a newer version.... I only have one switch that I use everyday and I don’t want to lose online features because I’m not up to date. I’m just a little bit worried that’s all.

I’ve been in the console modding community since the Wii era so I do have some experience in softmods but when it comes to hardmods, it’s always a no-go zone for me.
