Hello guys,

I have an odd problem, and I don't know what to do. Even google couldn't give me a real solution to this, same goes for the Nintendo Support:

I want to update my Switch from 4.1.0 to the current Firmware (5.0.3 ?), I don't care fo CFW in the moment, I want to play with some friends online over seas.

I already got the update prompt a few times in the last week, but got rid of it with the Power Out/Restart with Volume Button Method.

Now when I want to update it, it says I don't have enough storage on my system (Error Code 2002-0030). Funny. I got 23 GB on the internal and 110GB on my Micro SD Card left.

Nintendo said when swapping out Micro SD Card and nothing helps, it could be a defect, that I have to pay for the repair service.
This wouldn't bug me, but I can't backup my save data - THIS really annoys me, I have a lot of progress in my games and don't want to lose it, at any cost.

I already checked to transfer my profile to a friends Switch, still need an update for this.. :(

Is there a way to update the system without downloading stuff to the storage? Like with gamecartridges or stuff like that?

Or should I wait and hope for the CFW to hopefully update it?

Thanks for the read and any advise I get.

Ninty will transfer your saves for you when you send your device in. The only thing you should worry about is if they update your console or not, but since this is what the thread is about anyways, you shouldn't have anything to concern yourself over.

In the support mail they already declared, that it is unlikely that my savefiles will be restored, because of their repair process.
Because their guess was a mainboard malfunction. Thats why I'm asking. But thanks for the heads up anyway.

I had the exact same error the other day. I had to format my entire console in order to fix it unfortunately. It means all your game saves will be lost if you decide to go that route.

I tried the recovery mode too yes, no luck here as well. I also tried reset the console, but with savefiles still intact.. but now I'm also missing all the eshop games and can't download them anymore.. So basicly my switch can now just play my cartridge games.. :/

I was afraid that you would have success with wiping it all :( But I don't know if I really like that idea.. maybe I just wait and hope for the CFW hopefully releasing in summer.

Thanks again for the tips guys!

I think there is an option to reset without losing save data in the recovery menu. If you plan to try and reset, I recommend trying this. (if it exists)

I guess I didn't wrote it clear - I tried this option already a few hours ago. In the recovery menu, the second option is reset without deleting savefiles, but like I said, now I have the save files, but now downloaded content/games on my switch anymore, and I can't download it new = savefiles are useless now, without the game. Plus the error still occurs :(

Good luck with that, but it looks like a lost cause already.
Damn, I hope Nintendo implements cloud saving or something ASAP.
from my personal experience, Nintendo doesn't attempt to fix anything. I had to send my switch in for repair because i used the NYKO dock, i received a completely new switch with a different serial number less than a week after i sent it in even though i was quoted 2-3 weeks for a repair.

I have to second this.
Back in March last year I had my release day Nintendo Switch, with the typical Joycon wireless signal problem.
I sent the joycons (expecting them to apply to infamous easy fix conductive foam), one week later I received two completely new joycons, both also with wireless signal problems :wtf:, great QC Nintendo!

Thankfully, my launch day switch hasn't had a single error :D

I fixed this by formating keeping save data, now as soon as it's done formatting boot into recovery mode, don't even setup a main account, it should let you update from recovery mode.

I found another way to fix it!
I was trying to uodate again and while it was loading (but not downloading) i take the SD on hot, and then the Switch have to reboot.
While the Switch was rebooting I put the SD inside, and try again to download the update, and... Success!
^^

what i dont get is: even if their is a main board problem, nintendo has the master encryptiondecryption Keys to decrypt any emmc chip. I call bullshit on nintendos part. They 100% have the means to transfer the data with out a working switch. its called remove the module and dump the chip. decrypt the saves and transfer to another switch using special software.
