Chrono Trigger PC port to get original graphics patch

If you've been dissatisfied with the current state of Square Enix's Chrono Trigger PC port, it might be worth noting that the company plans to put out a few patches for the game in the next few months. Starting in April, the game will receive a patch that allows players to use the original SNES graphics, as opposed to the "remastered" option. Following that will be other additions and changes, which will be announced at a later date. Chrono Trigger is currently available on Steam for $14.99.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all of your feedback, patience and support so far.
We have been working on addressing the issues that you’ve raised, and will be releasing a number of patches over the coming months as we continue to support Chrono Trigger on Steam.

We’re aiming to release the first of these patches in the first half of April, and the biggest change is that it will include an option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics, and the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger.

We’ll post a full list of changes here when the first patch is released. For now, be assured that we’re working very hard on adjusting, updating and supporting Chrono Trigger on Steam.

As Chrono Trigger is going to receive patches over the coming months, we are going to extend the availability of the Limited Edition until:
5PM, April 30th BST / 9AM, April 30th PDT

Thanks again from all of us on the Chrono Trigger team.

people are very dumb buying even from VC like
you can easily download an emulator and play, i'm not talking about piracy, i'm talking how nintendo is being smart making money with dumb people who will pay them to play those games again that you can easily play in your phone

nintendo is just fooling you guys to get your money, wake up please
PSOne/PS2 Classics, the endless SEGA Genesis's compilations and NEO-GEO Arcade digital relaunches on every platform boi. Ya know, Nintendo ain't the only company which plays with user's nostalgia.

When they release an update fixing the crappy mobile-port control interface, I'll purchase the game. Until then, I'll stick with my DS and SNES versions. At least playing the SNES version on specific emulators gives you Retro Achievements. For those who don't know what that is, look it up. Should be Google's first result. :)

How come no one complained about Romancing Saga 2 being a mobile port but they complain about this one?
I think because romancing saga 2 has not been available for a very long time, so this is the best we can get. Plus chrono trigger is legendary and loved by many gamers who grew up in 90s, so this is like a middle finger to our childhood's memory

My point is that both games are the same thing on steam and deserve the same kind of attention regardless of how one is more popular than the other. If you dislike the treatment of mobile ports to console/steam then get them to do something about all of them to keep things consistent.

I know it's not a revolutionary game like chrono trigger since it was only a Japan until they decided to remaster it and release internationally, but it may help to start the process of bettering things all around.

Yeah, I noticed that romancing saga 2 didn't have so many negative backlash despite being a decent mobile port.

But hey, do you guys remember Deus ex the fall? I think that's when squenix started all their mobile port disasters

nintendo doesn't like and don't support rom hacks :)
have you ever seen how they fuck with people who make rom hacks and even fan games?
you're wrong dude nintendo doesn't support and don't like a bid :P

yeah remember Pokemon Uranium? thats a clear example of fan game killing hence one reason i pirate nintendo games..... GF actually support fangames (they even said if the devs are fluent in Japanese they may hire them) but it's because Nintendo basicly owns GF now they have no say in that department

Hell freakin' yeah! Too bad they're too slow in catching up and listening to what the reviewers or even the fans were crying out loud.

edit: They should also make a port for the Switch since they're already milking it 'til it runs dry.

I bought this port...at first I booted it up and thought "Ok cool CT on PC" then I played for a bit. First it asked me to name Crono and prompted me to let me know that emojis were not supported on my device, I brushed it off. I got in game and noticed the filtering on most of the game that people were talking about and thought ok...this is bearable not that great looking but im on a 4k screen w.e then strolled over to the Millennial Fair. Along the way the world map trees looked extremely funky....I walked into the fair and MY GOD every tile looked disgusting and misaligned, EVERYTHING was just odd, I looked at a tree and could clearly see cuts to where one tile met the other. I continued through the fair, bad tiles and all just to see how it would play. One mini game made 4 massive buttons appear on my screen all of which were clickable, as I clicked I noticed I could move Crono by dragging the mouse on the screen as well. Thinking it might have been just the fair that looked this ugly I went over to the woods to trigger a fight and check out the area. It had the same issue as the fair, everywhere I looked the tiles that make up the environment were just SPLIT nothing blended into anything else, even after changing the resolution to 800x600 I could see it happen....I walked back to the fair, there was a very specific part where the music HARD CUTS themes between the world map theme and the town theme. It is present in other versions of the game but actually loops well and there isn't a 1.5 second pause before it switches tracks...the battle UI was massive and looked gross on my screen, the font has no back drop so reading it is very jaring when you attack a number pops up and looks very rigid over your blured character sprites.

What killed me though was that after all this I really went back to the fair to play through and the framerate said it was running at 60 fps but the game was soooooooooooooooo CHOPPY I could see micro stutters every other step Crono made. After 1 hour and 55 minutes of gameplay I gave up and returned it to steam for a refund I noticed everything I listed here within that time. I feel for everyone else who bought this, it really was a dirty cash grab. Felt so dirty getting hyped at Squares announcement that this was out on steam then getting spit in the face with this port lmao...oh my feels. Never again. Ill wait before I buy from now on.

Just my experience with this port for anyone else who's thinking about buying.

The main problem with the port is that it had a steep learning curve, but also only original Snes music.
