En Masse Entertainment announced today that TERA, the true action MMO designed for consoles, releases for free on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 April 3, 2018. Come launch, gamers will be immersed in a massive world that combines the high adventure of epic MMORPGs with TERA’s own trademarked fast-paced precision combat mechanics.

Gamers too eager to wait for April 3 can purchase TERA Founder’s Packs beginning March 27 for $29.99. Founder’s Packs include a full week of Head Start access, also beginning March 27, and grant a variety of compelling in-game items to diehard players. More details about the Founder's Packs can be found on the official page.

“There is a lot of excitement in gaming to finally see the action combat TERA is so famous for realized on console,” states Matt Denomme, Sr. Product Manager at En Masse Entertainment. “We had an amazing reception to our Open Beta test from TERA veterans and newcomers. We are pumped to finally bring the deep, challenging, definitive MMO experience gamers have been waiting for to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”

TERA will be available across the Xbox One family of devices and the PlayStation 4 on April 3, 2018. Head Start for Founder’s Pack purchasers begins March 27.

I went back to play the PC version recently, the game is still fun, but it still had optimization issues.

My rig is i7-6700k, 1070-GPU, and 16GB of RAM. I get anywhere from 20-80fps in the main city.

For those looking to try it out, look up the racial differences if you care about min/max.

This has "microtransactions" written all over it.

Most of the things in the cash shop are cosmetics, like mounts, costumes, exp boosts etc...

There is a lvl 60 items booster, but leveling to 60 takes 1 day, maybe 2 or 3 for casuals.

You can however buy those items and sell them in the auction house and buy some of the best gears from other players, but it doesn't take long to grind it out yourself or with a guild.

Edit: I'm mostly talking about the Enmasse version, not Gameforge(I heard this one is more on the P2W side). The publisher makes a big difference.

That's how it always starts. It can only go downhill from there.

Played it on PC and had a lot of fun. I liked how the combat worked, definitely more engaging than some other MMOs I've played. Never spent any money, and never felt the need to.

I have no idea what the 'designed for console' stuff is about, but the game is fun. Played it for a bit on PC long ago, but it ran like garbage. Maybe I'll give it another go when it releases, though I doubt I'll have time and motivation to get further than like level 20.

Runs like garbage, made for consoles - I think you are on to something...

I don't think it runs (ran) like garbage - (in Velika is the only place I agree with, but there were hundreds of characters there and I think there wasn't a multiple world channel option in that zone). I was running it near max settings on a GTX 460 back in the day, then at decent settings on a 550Ti a year later.

The original subscription-based game, up until the free-to-pay-to-win version came out, is still at the top of my list for favorite games ever. I tried two months of the "elite" service they offered when they went free to play, but it just didn't do it for me.
Also at that time, userbase suffered horribly because long-time veterans up and left, they merged nearly all of their servers into just a few, and a slew of non-english speaking players flooded the US servers and treated their matchmade raid/dungeon parties like crap all the while sucking at the game.

My heart breaks for the memories and old friends I left behind with this game and I hope they can do better with it on consoles. If I had a console, I'd definitely try this out for free.

Edited at the beginning for clarity,

If you wanna play a console MMO (on PS4) play FFXIV, most PC's can play it too. Though I understand this might have more actiony combat?
It does have more actiony combat, but also it's free to play - not everyone can or wants to pay the subscription fee for XIV, especially more casual players.

Back on release when I was playing, it was running on a system of min-maxing tiny upgrades on gear that was a RNG fest which ended up costing thousands of gold in materials and attempts getting the right enchant combinations and whatnot. The process was long, and they'd sell some powders on the cash shop to speed up the maximization, which was stated to be an enormous effort without paying anything - most of the big guilds all spent real money.
This goes through hoops to attempt to hide it, but it is pay2win nonetheless. The "eventually you max out and everyone plays fair" is a void argument if the process of maximizing all the bonuses takes 10 years of play without paying, for example. In the case of TERA, i'm not confident I remember, but it could take something like 4 months to maximize the gear without paying, and that was before any content patches hit, which presumably would re-enact the process from square one.

In any case, that was soon after release. I wonder if this is still the case now?
