Did anyone get netplay working at all in any version, if so, which version?
I can't start netplay, it always goes from "Waiting for client" "Failed to initialize netplay"

Mmmm I haven't tried it in a LONG time, but perhaps @ploggy might be able to help here.
I'm enjoying Wrecking Crew '98.
:D
Glad you're enjoying it!

It's been a while for me too. IIRC there were problems connecting to other people but when it did work there was an annoying stutter every few seconds whenever both players were moving at once?
It's what stopped me from trying Netplay on WiiU tbh :P

Just thought I'd drop in and ask if anything in the OP still needs updating - I did commit to doing that, after all. @ me, yeah?
It seems reasonably up to date as far as I can tell.
Covers the important stuff, anything extra should be redirected to the RA Wiki for more in-depth info, but for the Wii U side I'd say it still holds up very well.

Don't know if @ploggy has anything which might be added to it.

How do you change which player you are in MAME? So I don't have to be Marge all the time haha

Dl the 2player version of the rom. But u still need to have the parent rom in the same directory.
Parent rom is usually larger in size then u will see sub roms that are smaller. The 2 player ones will let u select who u want in the games like simpsons and tmnt

I agree.
The core list is without a doubt a must for the OP since people do come here very often asking about which systems are supported.

Hey @QuarkTheAwesome, not sure if you are still involved with Wii U Retroarch development at the moment, but I was wondering if you knew anything about the status of re-adding HID support? I recall you were asking for controller configs for hardcoding into the cores. I have some that would be nice to have added (assuming this is still the approach being taken?)

I rather see this happening.
It still needs some time until the HID plugin is being extended to the native app feature range but as soon as that's the case you should be able to use that in order to use your HID devices in RetroArch (and anywhere else on the Wii U).

That's exactly what i'm waiting for ;)

Anybody know what Retroarch_Staging is on the buildbot? Seems a bit hefty at 200MB?

The plugin system is a neat idea, but having to go through the homebrew launcher every time on top of everything else is a drag. It already takes a while from power on to playing a game in Wii U Retroarch, and adding even more steps is less than ideal.

I have been enjoying the immediacy and simplicity of the SNES Classic lately, and it makes having to pull out the Wii U gamepad (and then switching controllers) every time a chore.

That being said, the Wii U version of Retroarch is fantastic and especially responsive (when it’s not throwing errors :) )

Use Haxchi as a forwarder and wait for it to become "nicer" as I asked in the thread for some kind of automating the process. Also it's already bundled with Mocha, so you could install CBHC to launch it. It will take some seconds but when you're at your homescreen you could directly fire up RetroArch.

It slowed down a bit, but I recently saw gblues on Discord saying that he'd get back into it and finish HID support off. Sorry that it's taken so long!
We're probably not going to have hard-coded configs; I was asking around for examples so I could design a new system of configs that would maintain compatibility.

500 pages and 10000 replies? Time to celebrate how far Retroarch on Wii U has become! We went from Wii U barely able to play Game Boy games to all sorts of retro systems to play! We've come a long way and the journey still continues. Let's take a moment to thank the people who worked hard to make this happen! I should be sleeping right now..
