Steins;Gate Elite to get English release for Switch, PS4, and PC (update)

1.png

Announced today at GDC 2018, Steins;Gate Elite is going to be receiving a localization, and will be releasing this year, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, and as a bonus for western fans, Steam. Steins;Gate Elite is a remixed version of the original visual novel, featuring full animation from the anime accompanying the text, instead of static artwork. This marks the first time that the series will release on a Nintendo system, as well. Not only is the visual style getting an overhaul, but there's going to be a new translation team working on it, as the new Spike Chunsoft America studio will be in charge of this release, rather than Pqube, which has handled all prior localizations.

The company also announced translations for PixelJunk Monsters (PS4, NS, PC), a new RPG made by the Danganronpa creators called Zanki Zero: Last Beginning (PS4/PC), 428 Shibuya Scramble (PS4, PC), and Fire Pro Wrestling (PS4).

Update: Steins;Gate 0 will be getting a Steam version as well, while Robotics;Notes is scheduled to get a western release too.

I am really interested to buy this for the Switch.
But having watched the anime, and having 100% the original game... I am not sure there's much more in there for me.

Hmmmm....

Same, although with a new translation team, it could be slightly different. I'm supporting it just because I'm glad Spike Chunsoft is bringing it to PC

@Chary You might wanna edit the post, as the localization isn't coming to the Vita. Spike Chunsoft said that the platforms are Switch, PS4 and PC.

It'll have a Vita version in Japan tho
Oh boy once again Vita users get the shaft. We didn't get the Vita version Nights of Azure 1 or 2 internationally either. I'm surprised we got the Vita version of Chaos;Child (and physically no less) as disappointing as I found it. Hopefully Spike Chunsoft will release Chaos;Head Dual internationally (I'd even take the PSP version of Chaos;Head Noah as a PSN download for Vita if it were localized though it wouldn't make much sense to do).

When you say "remix," does that mean it'll be different than the original VN? Because I'm yet to play S;G, or watch the anime, and seeing how little time I get in front of my PC to play/watch things, I'm considering buying this on Switch to hack away at during my commutes and when I'm not home. Is it gonna differ substantially from the originals, barring the re-translation? Should this be where I start?

After seeing the trailer, I think it's like original S;G but it now looks like a interactive anime, like you watch the anime version and you can still make choices. So it might be good for people new to S;G to start, because the VN version is ridiculously long (it will take ~40 hours to complete all of the story).

I've been seeing this reported quite a bit, it's a shame that this:
http://www.siliconera.com/2018/03/23/roboticsnotes-coming-west/

isn't getting a lot of attention, because hot damn if this isn't a long time coming. That and reception for Elite hasn't exactly the most stellar, mainly because you're trading the pretty stylistic, high-detail sprites from the game out (occasionally) for the flatter character designs from the anime. That and it seems pretty cheap, in practice.

Honestly, that sounds great! Think I'll at least hold out on anything S;G related (was gonna watch the anime soon) and see what reviewers have to say. If they recommend it for newcomers, then I'll go with it.

I don’t really watch a lot of Anime but Steins Gate is awesome. It’s really good.

It’s an Anime I would want to show people, but it’s nerdyness does prevent me. It gets into that whole otaku culture thing and that weird stuff they do. Which sucks because the time travel and how they go about it is really good.

I totally recommend it if people don’t mind the nerd stuff. Which is people on this site.

Anime is based on a real event with a guy online calling himself John Titor claiming he’s from the future. And he was looking for an IBM 5100. He was basically an internet troll people fell for.
