What I understood is ghibli isn't part of NNK2, but I saw the music is still composed by Joe Hisaishi :) Maybe only some of Ghibli staff was part of the sequel?

Yes, Hisaishi returns for NNK2. Character designer for NNK2 is also from Ghibli, IIRC. Maybe the level designer too, I don't quite recall. Some staff carryover, for sure.

Since there is NNK2 now you have plenty of time for translation again :)

It could actually be the opposite since they will be playing NNK2 instead of working on the project! Ahahaha!

All jokes aside, Good Luck to everyone who are involved with this amazing work!

We've got a few big ticket items left, and even though I preordered NNK2 I told myself that I'm not allowed to put the disc into my PS4 until I have finished some stuff for the translation. We'll see how my resolve holds out once the game shows up. Heh. TBH, it might not even get to my house until next week so, I might spend all weekend being twitchy and wanting some form of Ni No Kuni playtime, making me *more* productive. We shall see, we shall see.

Things are looking better with every build. A big bunch of the remaining fiddly image issues have been worked out, and it is sometimes easy to forget that this is a patched game. Things work fairly smoothly.

We won't be able to publish the patch before NNK2 comes out, since that is only days away. That's all I can really say about it until we've figured out a couple more of the issues that we have left.

Thanks for the encouragement! :)

So, this first release is putting riddle answers in the game so that you can use the PS3 PDF as a reference. We are not going to make you wait while we translate the DS-specific parts of the Magic Master. The Spanish team released the whole thing all at once, but we feel like it is a very playable game as it stands. My current playtest is exclusively using the PS3 PDF, and it works reasonably well with riddle answers in the game.

BUT.

For those that are interested in the complete experience, including solving all the riddles that require the physical Magic Master book, we ARE planning to do a follow up release with no in game answers. That means we need to translate about 100 pages of text that is not in the PS3 pdf. Things like info pages for Imagen unique to the DS, item pages, and the maps and other riddle-filled pages.

We need some help on that front - typesetting the newly translated pages, inserting them into the PS3 PDF, and renumbering everything to make it all fit together nicely. Most people who signed up to help with the ROM project knew that they woudlnwo have the energy to do the book project, too, which is one of the other reasons our first release is without it.

If you have experience with typesetting, editing, or photoshop in general and are interested in helping with that project, please let me know. We think we have cleaned versions of the pages available from the spanish team, but there may still be some cleaning needed at times, too, if that's more your thing.

I've posted to a couple of scanlation forums, but if you have a favorite scans group that you think is should approach, please send me a PM about it.

Don't take this as meaning that we are done the first release, I'm just being proactive and trying to plan ahead here so that new team members can ramp up on things while we're ramping down on the first patch file.

Thanks for any help you can give, folks!

Hi Anjira, I highly enjoyed the movie you sent a link to! What scanlation forums are you talking about? I'll take a look to it if i knew where to find them.

I pitched the idea, pretty much as above. If you're interested in helping and have some experience with typesetting or photoshopping, I can send you some specific info in a PM. :)

Same goes for anyone else interested in helping with the book translation - drop me a PM and we'll chat! :)

I don't want to sound negative, but I would find it important that nnk fonts look sharp and not grainy or blurred on a xl. I got a 3dsxl for my original ds cartridge collection, and while some implementations scaled fonts correctly, like nnk (Japanese) and Zelda, some others did give pixelated text, for example radiant historia, and the drowned city. And my R4 card is not recognized by my 3dsxl, perhaps another card would work.
The 3ds also logs time spent per game :)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Aha wiki scanlation.. send me an image and I'll fix it, and see if you approve of the results.
I have taken a few days off next weeks.

I've tried a few different emulators on Android, and Desmume on Windows and they all seem readable to my eyes, but this is a DS game not a UHD PS4 game on a 4k screen so I guess my expectations aren't super high. I'm curious what you think about the existing screenshots of the game's fonts?

If you meant the fonts in the book, don't worry. We don't expect people to be using that from their DS, that's not reasonable even with the PS3 PDF. It is a nice PDF - you can check out the one they put together for the Spanish translation, if you're interested.

Weird, I haven't had any problem with my R4 card. I'm using it in DS mode, and it works fine on my US 3DSXL and JP 3DS.

I'll start a PM with you about this later this weekend.

I like the English translations from Japanese games, this is awesome!
Nice work guys! Hope we can see the full version in the future

Yup, it will be great when it is done! :D

What R4 card exactly do you have? Does it say R43ds? I have a regular R4 card, and no nnk nds runs on either my ds nor 3dsxl. Old ds roms do run fine though. Perhaps I should get another card?.

I have R4iDS, sorry I misspoke. It looks like this (green letters on the word "3DS"):
http://www.ds-cart.net/en/r4i-gold/8-r4i-gold-3ds-for-3ds-dsi-dsl.html

I'm sorry that even the original game doesn't run on your cart. It is the biggest DS game ever made, as far as I know, and that might cause some problems with some carts. We will make a list of carts that we have tried when we release it, but I'm sure there will be lots that we don't have amongst our group members and we'll just need to find out from users if it is supported or not.

I have really enjoyed playing the game on my android phone, I have a bluetooth controller that I can hook up to it if I'm playing at home, and I can use Chromecast to put it on my TV for a bigger screen. If you had a computer that could connect to a TV, you could also use desmume to play that way. The graphics are a bit blocky at large screen sizes, but it does work. The soundtrack is gorgeous, so it helps me forget i'm playing something so blocky. haha.

@Anjiera is this your version of translation?
Nope. I don't recognize that user name. We have some Dutch speakers on the team, but I don't know of a dutch translation effort.

I am hoping that an English-translated version of the game will open up the possibility of people in many languages being able to translate the game easier. From what I understand there are many countries with people that speak English as a second language well enough to translate from it into their native tongue, but not as many (for a random example) Lithuanian && Japanese speakers. I am willing to share our set of files and tools (already on github) with other teams, as soon as we're done with them.

never mind, that makes it clear. As soon as something is released i'll get a dsttwo+ (https://www.r43ds.org/products/Supercard-DSTwo-Plus.html) that should work in any case. Unfortunately i lost my japanese original rom so for now it's desmume.

So wait. IIm lost here. When is the release again?
We'll post here when we're done. We haven't ever committed to a date because we all have lives outside of the project, and life happens.

We're working through a limited number of known issues now. We don't seem to be finding any new/unknown bugs with current playthroughs, so it is "just" a matter of fixing them. Some of them are tedious, some of them less so. Usually the not-so-tedious ones require special skills, so we're letting those people work at the pace they are comfortable with.

We will definitely post here as soon as the patch is available, have no fear. :)
