Nike x Splatoon 2 Collaboration Announced for Splatfest

Unlikely new collaboration: Nike x Splatoon 2! You've read that right!

For the upcoming Splatfest in Japan, the official Japanene Splatoon twitter account questioned gamers' preference: the latest model or the most popular model from the footwear styles below:

The Splatfest is a Japan-only event that will be held from March 24th to March 25th.

It is not clear if Splatoon-themed footwear will be actually released or they will be only features for the event. It might also hint at future collaboration between the two companies. Would you like to possess Splatoon-themed apparels?

I think the one on the right, Air Max 95, will be chosen over the 270. For some reason japanese really like the Air Maxes, especially the 95 and 97.
I would buy neither, as I hate seeing the bubbles.

The same people who buy Nike products are the same people who pay $100+ for shoes.

Excuse my ignorance, but is this a jab at people who pay more than $100 for shoes? I'm not too familiar with the sneakerhead scene, but I thought shoes less than $150 were seen as normal by everyone else? I'm genuinely interested, as I've never actually gone sneaker shopping before, yet I've always had Nike, Rebok or Adidas shoes growing up.

Not to say I haven't seen shoe prices before - my little cousin just bought a pair of $450 shoes; I know that is excessive. But I didn't think $100 was, especially for quality?

You can get good quality sneakers for cheaper, but that are still cool, like the Jordan 1. Most of the sneakers releasing nowadays have their prices inflated or are hard to get, since stock is lower than demand, making the resell prices go up. Those 450$ shoes were probably bought from a resseler (or he got some Off-White or Gucci or something along those lines).
Everyone has their own opinion. I've got people at my workplace that say a 10$ pair is good enough, while others are ok with buying something up to 150$. Personaly, I wouldn't pay more than 200$ if I wasn't resseling them.

The only time I'd spend real money would be on work boots.

See, the thing is you can get pretty good work boots for cheap too. I got some waterproof ones with steel toe cap and split steel bottom for 52£. They're also pretty warm.
In the end, everyone is entitled to their opinion (except the people who say 10$ ones are fine because they don't care about their feet's health).

generally, at least for me I spend $100 on a pair of nikes that last 7 or so years, its well worth that money, I'm not buying air jordans or anything just regular nike sneakers
I could get some junky converse for half the price that fall apart after a month, I never really bought some of the other off brand stuff from kmart or whatever but quality wasnt that great from what I saw

i'm more of the "let's splurge and buy these 20 dollar sneakers". the joys of being raised poorer lol.

i'd imagine like with everything else, most of the cost from name brands comes from buying the logo. I got a pair of 50 dollar lesser-known brand of shoes for christmas 3 years ago and they still feel too fancy for me.
