All the saying on the internet about bricking your Switch with third party docks, make me wonder how many people have really brick their system with third party docks.

Edit2:
It's save to say at the moment that none of the 3rd party docks and high voltage USB-C chargers (USB-C PD) are save to use without risking to brick your switch. Like mentioned in:

and https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/2CUPZ5yVTRT

Edit:
Could the people who have been bricking their Switches tell which dock they are using and if the Switch is totally bricked (so even a 20 sec shutdown doesn't work)? Thanks

Also, I can't find much people on Amazon who are really bricking their systems. Most of the adapters stop working after some period of time or causing connection issues. I think it's thereby safely to say that the 3rd party docks works most of the time, but aren't reliable. Probably because the internal circuits aren't made for 15v but for 5v. Also bricking your Switch probably can be fixed under warranty, but you would lose your save-games.

Item I bought and works perfectly the first time (but I won't use it for a while): https://www.ebay.nl/itm/Type-C-to-4K-HDMI-USB-3-0-HUB-Converter-Adapter-for-Nintendo-Switch-S8-Macbook/253300986457?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&var=552450497857&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I think that (docking issue) only happens to people on 5.0? I think you'll get more data later, but not much from 'temp.

This is false, and I'm not sure why people think 5.0 is the only firmware bricking Switches. Nyko has been killing consoles since release, and other third party docks having been doing much better. It was only after 5.0 that there was a LARGE influx of other docks destroying consoles, and not just Nyko this time around.

Most people don't believe 5.0.0 is the only firmware this has happened, but there have been a large influx of bricks with 5.0.0 so it may be a cause of bricking

I have seen comments like H1B1's posts far more often than should be seen. It seems like most people weren't even aware that Nyko was bricking Switches until 5.0 released. I'm not arguing that 5.0 isn't doing any bricking, just that it was happening before hand.

I don't want to be the guy to say, "No, you didn't.", but....no, you didn't.

You saw, "WAAAAUGHHHH!!!!@@!@11 my Sweetch iz ded-=-N10doh, you dun gucked up! My $24.00, doesn't-use-the-same-voltage-as-the-official-dock dock fry'd ma Sweetchuru! Worked on 1-4.1.0, so 5.0 is the keeler."

And to break you down further, "I think that (docking issue) only happens to people on 5.0? I think you'll get more data later, but not much from 'temp."
most likely doesn't mean what you think it means. I was speculating (it's like thinking) that this (specific) "issue" is amplified in 5.0.

The other part was an implication that most (65%+) of the people who own NS on GBATemp, won't update to 5.0 to find out if 5.0 is going to ruin their Switch. The necessary data for 5.0 will come in from others who tried to delete update data, didn't configure their DNS, didn't turn off auto-update, updated on purpose, or check mark for non-applicable reason.

IMO, switches WERE bricking with third party docks, but with 5.0.0 are bricking more often on those same docks. Given the fact that third party pro controllers that worked perfectly fine are now causing the switch to crash sometimes upon connecting (eeekit pro controller for example), it seems 5.0.0 is really wonky when it comes to third party accessories that used to work fine.
But until more info is gathered, I can't state that as fact.

Same.

I'm rolling my tinfoil hat that 5.0 is in preparation for TX and the mod chips, so you can call 'Tendo and tell them you have no idea how your system turned into a brick; all of the other third-party "issues" are just in the cross-fire. Just a big-company-fucking-you theory.

Except for that one dock that sends voltage spikes to docked Switches--that's a mid-size-company-fucking-you fact.

Wow. Someone shit in your cornflakes today. Your attitude was completely unnecessary. I'd rather not get hammered for arguing with someone regarding the semantics of language, so you keep thinking what you want.

Well if just everyone sees this post and vote we will find out. I could change the poll to add a 5.0 option. But most people here also plays online and buy from the store, so only a little group hasn't update I think.

Luckily Nintendo isn't that bad with warranty support. I one blew up my AC adapter, caused by a power spike in my house. They send me a new one. So if you brick, just send it in. In EU you have 2 year warranty.

there really isnt many people claiming to have bricked systems, you have to remember there are billions of people on the internet.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I like how no one has voted so far for 'yes i did brick.' this is also why I don't trust most third party products before knowing that much about them.
I cant wrap my head around what you are trying to say.

I guess that might be a thing? The people would need to see the post, but you'd be better off making a new thread.

The warranty may be good (unless you live in BR), but that may not be the best idea if you want CFW.

Right, but you're wrong. Be accountable for trying to be "that guy"; go polish your skills on youtube comments.

Pro tip: you don't have enough badges to try.

I have a question I have yet not been able to find an answer to :P(maybe someone with a bricked switch can enlighten me, or someone that knows). If you brick your switch via one means or another, and have digital games and downloads purchased from the eshop on said switch, how are you supposed to deactivate the account of the bricked switch to allow you to download them again on another switch on the same account? I haven't yet bricked a switch, but I am thinking down the track as a worst case scenario. I don't know why nintendo couldn't just do what sony did, instead of screwing the community with this whole deactivation rubbish. Anyways...if anyone has any idea what the solution would be.

I am curious about this, Has there actually been any proof of a dock being the cause of a switch bricking? Also were the docks being used with cheap grade third party power adapters? I've searched for proof of this on youtube and the 1k+ recesses of google results and come up empty on seeing it happen or of the actual circuit boards of the broken consoles to see indications of surges. This seems to coincide with the release of nintendos 1st quarter sales totals for the switch but I won't delve too deep down that rabbit hole. Hate to say it but proof or it didn't happen like you claim it did.
