Half Life 1 Vita Port First Release!

220px-Half-Life_Cover_Art.jpg

Since the PSP days, homebrew developers have been trying to port the original Half Life release to portable consoles, with limited success. The PSP port ran on the Quake engine and...wasn't great, filled with bugs and crashes. And now, developer "fgsfdsfgs" has ported over Xash3D, an open source GoldSrc engine, to the Vita that uses Rinnegatamante's Hardware accelerated OpenGL wrapper, VitaGL! And you know what runs on GoldSrc/Xash3D? Half Life 1!

Of course, this being an initial release, the port isn't perfect just yet, but the first release is a big first step in finally getting Half Life on a handheld console!

The following are things you can expect from this particular port:

  • It can only run Half-Life right now.
  • Sound is a tad flaky and people sound a tad off but not too bad.
  • It is a test release so you’ll encounter bugs, glitches and issues!
  • Mods currently don’t work but you should able to use custom maps.
  • The frame rate fluctuates between 20-60 FPS all the time but it’s still perfectly playable in my opinion!
  • The game seems to render at 960×544 so it looks exceptionally good-looking!
  • Saving and auto-saving takes a while and your game will seem to freeze so don’t force quite the game!
If this Half Life port goes over well, other GoldSrc games may also see a port as well. This includes Half Life + various Half Life 1 mods such as Cry of Fear or They Hunger, Team Fortress Classic, and yes, even Counter-Strike!

You can grab the first release of the engine in the Github link posted below, which includes instructions on getting Half Life 1 to run.

great news!
but wait, title says vita, in the middle it talks about the psp

to which console did he ported the engine?
It's stated in the title, and if you know anything about Vita hacking, heavily implied in the text. But I fixed it up so people who have 0 clue for Vita hacking understand better.

Its not a Halflife port, its a xash3D port.
http://www.moddb.com/engines/xash3d-engine
you can see it when you look at the repos name : vitaXash3D
Technically, yes, however it's currently only developed to run Half Life and that's it. None of the other GldSrc engine games are playable like they would be (for the most part) on Xash3D. Hence why it's more considered a Half Life port, and not just a general Xash3D port.

To me it seemed like he said it can run mods just not the ones which have their own dll like Counterstrike, which he might work on later.

And he is really porting xash3d from FWGS guy which says :

"Xash3D Engine is a custom Gold Source engine rewritten from scratch. Xash3D is compatible with many of the Gold Source games and mods and should be able to run almost any existing singleplayer Half-Life mod without a hitch."
So I guess he is gonna work on that part too
