I just switched to a public seed that way I don't have to worry about it (and if the USUM theory is right, my original seed won't get banned because I haven't updated to 1.2 yet).

What is really needed though is for someone who knows what they are doing to actually reverse engineer the 1.2 update as that is the only way to know for sure.

So basically we just need to install the update as a cia rather than use Nintendy's wifi installment

Unfortunately no. I have installed the updates as a CIA using FBI (downloaded w/ CIAngel), and I still got banned. Base UM CIA also created with CIAngel I believe, US installed w/ freeShop.

Tho I'm starting to think its only ppl who have been using seeds are getting banned. Alot of folks use B9S but still aren't taking the advantages of homebrew app injections to completely hide their activity
The ban could be related to something else like NTR CFW or other homebrew apps launched as CIA's

That is what I've been thinking, but someone in this thread claimed (on page 6 I believe) that this is not the case and that people that only ever used the Rosalina hb injection got banned as well. I used hb CIAs, so I can't really provide any meaningful contribution to the statistics here.

No ban in the previous banwave, and not banned as of this post. When the last wave happened I removed all cia homebrew and started using only 3dsx versions & only launched them using the hb app switching feature of Rosalina. Have played online & used freeshop numerous times. Have never played a Pokemon game either legit or pirated. Not sure if any of that helps, lol.

If i using private seed at console A,but also copied this seed to console B.
If ban has reached console A...means that console B will be banned too (even if console B never go out online, but used same seed)? Or still only console A will be banned in this case, and seed can be added from B to A again?

Also all bans permanent?

B would be banned too.

I don't think so. But the majority is.

If seed is common and gets banned, then it's for both. However, if you have two systems and only use the seed from one system on both, you can then swap the seed you backed up and unban them both. And bans are "permanent" unless stated that you are banned for "x" days, but almost all bans are 100% recoverable from with CFW, so nothing to worry about really.

Oh it actually says that if it's temporary? Didn't know that. Guess I can stop periodically checking my old private seed then >.>
It will say "banned for X days" or something like that or at least it will say "temporarily".

So far not banned in any of the waves, despite .cia homebrew and an almost always on wifi. But I don't use the online features of most games and I don't play Pokemon at all.

Well my 3DS got banned, I had all telemetry things turned off, I haven't done anything different aside from doing a VC Injection of a romhack. As for Pokemon 1.2 being the culprit, that update came out on the 13th and I only just tried going online with it today, so that's a huge gap of time for me to make an accurate judgement on whether or not it was the culprit.....it more than likely wasn't and Nintendo just gave bans randomly as they seem to do.

The theory behind the 1.2 isn't that you get banned by going online with it, but by simply downloading it. Something at the time of the download may be flagging people somehow, could be serve side only.

Maybe, but what's done is done I guess, although personally I don't think this is the case, people were saying the same thing about Fire Emblem DLC last year I believe.

Have we figured out the criteria? I managed to dodge again, but all I've done is the standard steps on 3ds.guide (i.e no spotpass/sending of system data).

I have never bothered switching to .3dsx, I only use Rosalina for exact battery life, I don't disconnect from internet to use stuff like pksm or ntrlauncher

Im still not banned and basically use mine the same way. Hard to say exactly what it is, but to me it seems like a coincidence when I’ve avoided using usum 1.2 and others who have used it are banned.

No. Best guess is that most of them were due to downloading the 1.2 update triggering some kind of server side eshop check plus a few done by unknown means like last time. Reverse engineering the 1.2 update might help determine that for sure if it has to do with running the 1.2 update but if it is merely downloading it that triggers a pure server side check then even that won't help.

If the checks happen when you update and not when you run it, you can just log the data sent to Ninty's server and see what's going on, so it is still possible to reverse engineer it.
