Hi community, I have the flashcart shown here. On the back of it there is a "C", and i purchased it back in 2013ish. My 3ds is one of the older models and the current version is 11.2.0-35. I dont have another 3ds that is currently running custom firmware. so anything i do would have ot be done on a single 3ds system. Ive tried a few things to get this cart working, when i boot it i can see the flachcart is recognized, but when i hit "A" it just says an error occurred and to turn off the power. please let me know if it is possible to use this flashcart still and how to do so. Please consider that im a newb when giving me directions, just to make sure i dont misunderstand the advice. thanks.

Assuming you are trying to install ntrboot hack on the cart?
I am, but i am hoping i dont have to do anything to my actual 3ds. These flashcarts use to work solely based on the flashcart in the past and im hoping to do the same.

You need to download the kernel from their site to the micro sd inside the flashcard.
I have downloaded the kernel, wood 1.64 aswell as a patch. from the r4igold.cn website. Still doesnt work. Do you know if this kernel works for V. 11.2.0-35 for sure?

You have to figure out the correct spot on the 3ds to use the magnet to trigger sleep mode, with the correct files and ntrboot cart set up properly it will eventually boot into B9S install configuration menu.

Since you are on 11.2 use soundhax instead of Ntrboot

i know where the magnet works, ive used this guide: 3ds.hacks.guide/flashing-ntrboot-(3ds-single-system).html
ok, so i should give this up and adopt soundhax then? can i do it with a single 3ds system?

The thing is you have to press the specific button while powering on the unit along with positioning the magnet with the system to trigger sleep mode.

Sound hax is an entry point for homebrew since you are on 11.2, that is one of the two options , the other being NTRBoot

soundhax is very simple i'll explain a few details on how it works basically you boot into homebrew using a modified 3ds sound file then run something called udsploit then one final app that will boot into the safeb9sinstaller

Ive tried the buttons+ sleepmode, but on the guide it says to do it after ive injected the ntrboot. so if you have more detail other than whats on that guide id say ive exhausted that avenue.
on the other front, i could try soundhax, but id rather not because of the risk of bricking. but is that the only thing that works on v11.2? thanks

That is clearly a r4ids.cn cart and not r4igold.cn. Where did you even get the idea that it's r4igold.cn?
Anyway that cart works just fine on latest 3DS firmware if the cart firmware is up to date, but past a certain cart firmware you had to cut a trace on the PCB on older models after updating to make the cart work again.
If the cart isn't already up to date you need a CFW'd 3DS or a DSi/DS to update it. Luma3DS CFW unblocks previously blocked DS flashcarts so they can be used again.
I would recommend installing CFW, it's easy and comes with lots of benefits other than just piracy, you can even use the R4i Gold to do it, the only problem is that in order to do that you first need to be able to use the cart.

hi, that sounds simple, however without step by step i cant do it, want to reduce risk of bricking. is soundhax the only way with v11.2?

B9S has like very low chance of brick, people who bricked their device didnt follow the direction given in the guide, follow every steps correctly and you should get a fully hack system, you can use soundhax if the ntrboot method is taking too long for you.

My mistake, your right, it is r4ids.cn is where i got it and i used the current kernel. I confused cuz it says gold on my r4i flashcart. how do i cut the trace on the pcb? also, PCB? how would i do this since i dont have a 3ds or dsi with CFW? when you say i can use r4i gold, you mean the one i have right? anyways, do you recommend a guide for doing all of this that will work with my flashcart for sure? thanks

Kernel and firmware are not the same thing. The kernel is just the menu that's placed on the SD card but the firmware actually needs to be flashed to the cart. You NEED a console the flashcart will run on in order to update the firmware. Any DS or DSi should work, or a 3DS on older firmware or with CFW.
And yes I mean the one you have. https://3ds.hacks.guide/flashing-ntrboot-(3ds-single-system) is what you want but as said you first need to get the firmware of the cart updated so it will actually run.

Instructions for the firmware update and cutting the trace are here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/r4i-gold-3ds-now-supports-6-0-0-xx.350028/
Just use the latest versions of the firmware/kernel instead of using the ones mentioned there.
If your cart already worked on 6.x before then you probably have a newer revision that doesn't require cutting the trace. The update was released in 2013 so it could be either or.

ok, firware seems to be the issue, but again, i dont have an older DS system and i dont have another system with CFW, so does that mean i cant do it? not so easy after all if thats the case. ive followed that guide but it doesnt work, probably bcuz i dont have the CFW, which is what i thought the point of the single system guide was for. on there it doesnt even mention the need for another system to update firmware.

It doesn't mention it because it assumes that your DS flashcart is currently working, which in your case, it's not.
You can try this method of getting CFW which only needs a $2 DSiWare game: https://gbatemp.net/threads/seedminer-single-system-dsiware-injection.495685/
If you get CFW installed your cart should work just fine and you'll be able to update the firmware on it too.

ok, that being said, what are the odds of bricking using this method? also, im assuming this is ntrboot right? difference bewtween ntrboot vs soundhax?
