It's everything to do with the Switch. In return for providing hardware for the Switch, Nvidia gets to release Nintendo games on the Shield for the Chinese market. They share enough hardware that the Shield and Switch might end up sharing a VC library
Maybe so, but that GC is emulated on it? It's not surprising at all, Only reason I can see this vaguly close with the Switch if you can extract their emulator and port it. Else no.

That's kind of the point... Getting it to run on the Switch wouldn't be that much of an issue as the hardware is similar. The only obstacle would be software. Since it's an officially sanctioned product, I don't see that being much of an issue either.

It might not be so simple since the OS architecture is different between the platforms, but who knows. It might just be a simple software that is easily portable.

That's what I'm saying, the only real hurdle is the software (OS).. I don't see it being that much of an issue though as it's an official product rather than some 3rd party emulator (Dolphin). So, they'll more than likely have a way to get it to work.

Well yeah, if we get Android to boot on it. Definitely :P

Now we've hit daydreaming. Ughhhh.. Unfortunately I see Android running on it well before any Gamecube emulation/VC.
I wonder how ever when VC will come officially. It feels like they're waiting for Network Subscription to kick in first for some reason.

nobody is going to go to jail for an emulator , even geohot was only sued civilly not criminally
it would never ever happen
all ISO sites are still in operation
an emulator using some arbitrary copyrighted code is much more low key than hosting actual roms and ISO's
i don't see why it is such a big deal it really is surprising that it has not happened before
>Implying you can't go to jail if you get sued with the civil code

This is wrong, the switch is exactly the same hardware wise (extact n° of cores and GPU) as the shield X1, the only difference lies in that the frequency on switch's CPU cores and GPU are set at of stock X1's speed and that the switch has 4GB of Ram instead of 3GB. And even
The switch having 8 cores? Really? Every search i do return the same result, stating that the switch only has half of the shield cores, that means 4x arm cortex A57 at 1020Mhz. No other places tells the oposite. And isnt the tegra x1 stock speed clocked at 1.0Ghz? The switch on docked is below that (arround 700Mhz) and undocked is even below that (arround 300Mhz) so, what the hell?

Theoretically... Game compatibility is a different story.

Dolphin only runs about 70-75% of games perfectly, according to the Wiki. So I doubt this'd be much different.

Indeed, but I suspect it will be game wise as they previously done.

Nintendo only optimizes the emulator on a per-game basis, so compat isn't that high.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tegra#Tegra_X1 Looking at this, it seems that the A53 on the switch are disabled so you're right on that end, but even then I don't think it makes much of a difference since IIRC those A53 were only used for doing low-procesing tasks on the OS like messaging (to save battery) while the A57 (which are more energy-consuming) are used for actual demanding things like gaming, you can search about ARM Big.LITTLE for more info about that.

I do believe this is correct.

But doesnt clockspeed still mean something in the long term? Dolphin surely performs better on a cpu clocked higher than 2 than on one clocked below that, even if the gpu is still kinda decent. I'm not saying the switch wouldnt be able to handle gamecube games, i just said that people shouldnt expect 1080p games at 60fps like the ones being re-released on the shield.

Even if this is emulation, it'd require more optimization to run on the Switch than it does on the Shield TV, which makes it unlikely to "run the most demanding GC game no problem!". Gotta remember the Switch's CPU is running half speed what the Shield TV's is, which makes it highly unlikely the Switch will perform anywhere near the same.

Even with the lower overhead the Switch's OS will have vs Android isn't going to bring that much performance back with that much underclock. I'm sure Nintendo will try to get GC VC on the Switch at some point, but I don't expect it'll be for most games and it's definitely not going to be as nice looking.

the L hdmi cables work great on my tv and receiver. so much less stress on the ports using them than regular cables. in that instance anyway.
