let the kids play with their cardboard we'll worry about more important stuff like team x mod chip and metroid prime 4

such as? :creep:

It was national hug day yesterday, so I celebrated by hugging my penis. That's more exciting than Lobo, but I'm not the target audience for that, so that's fine.

Can't really say I'm excited, I'm just very mildly interested in what it has to offer which doesnt seem to be that much as of now so I'll wait until the reviews come/more covergae on it so I won't end up $70-150 on a few cardboard tech demos

I'm excited. I plan on getting all the kits. I think a lot of the dissapoinment comes from people expecting the announcement to be some new game, but those will come as a matter of course for the console. We'll get our Monster Hunter and Pokemon titles; that is all but guaranteed.

The Labo is unexpected and fresh. It is a risk for sure, but it is exciting and reminds me of the Wii's appeal. Frankly, I'd be disappointed if Nintendo didn't try something original with the Switch outside of the typical AAA gaming experience; that would be a disservice to what the console is capable of. Remember, "lateral thinking with withered technology," is one of Nintendo's core philosophies.

I can defiantly imagine children enjoying this and it will really open up a new way for parents and kids to bond over video games, but I think it's just shoving Nintendo further down the "Only kids play our stuff" hole and it's just more stuff the older part of the community isn't gonna care about. Like I'm not expecting Nintendo to turn around and release the most profound and inappropriate game possible, but there's nothing wrong with having your family-friendly content also be appealing to both adults and children.

Nope, the moment i saw it was from cardboard, i was turned down, the concept is great, but cardboard gets very easy dirty and broken (greasy fingers, water, sweat, etc...)
I don't see Nintendo giving out free replacement cardboard. If they used durable materials that could be easily cleaned, yes, now no way i'm gonna buy that.

I'm excited about the game not the cardboard but what i plan on doing is buying the game and using my 3d printer to make PETG PLA parts that will fold up when i'm done using them and plus the 3d printed parts will last me a lot longer then the cardboard and it would work better and not get missed up.

Not personally, no. It's just not for me. It looks fun and all but I can't see it having any lasting appeal for me.
I think it's a great idea though. It's something new and unique and is sure to be lots of fun for kids.
But the price tag is way too high for what is essentially just some cardboard that you probably have to cut out and fold yourself. That stuff can't cost more than $2 to make.
I heard they were going to make the blueprints available so people can make their own from scratch, so that makes up for it I guess.

It isn't just the cost of the cardboard, it's the cost of the game cartridge and the cost of development. It takes more to develop cardboard that has to interact with hardware and software, and it seems like it will also include other materials like string and rubber bands. It isn't just cardboard for $70-80

I'm that guy that grew up playing with Legos and building random things with wood scraps and nails. I also grew with a fondness for electronics and am going into IT. I'm excited for this from both a building aspect and a technology aspect.

It comes with a cartridge? I wasn't aware of that.
String and rubber bands are even cheaper. Look at the price of a Google Cardboard which comes with lenses and other parts other than cardboard.
The Labo games are probably going to be short/basic games, something like Wii Sports, so I still don't think the price tag is justified.

I'm speaking sorta generally here, but your comments made me think. Yeah, $70 dollars seems a bit steep, but people dropped $90 USD on Wii Fit in the middle of a recession, and it went on to become a best seller.

As for the games, we won't know what they will be like until we see some actual gameplay, but I'd wager it will be more like Nintendo Land and have longer, arcade-style games. Knowing Nintendo, I don't think they would settle for selling tech demos with cardboard peripherals. With that said, the cardboard peripherals are the primary appeal of the Labo, or it least it seems that way by looking at the Nintendo Direct announcement.

If the Labo software turns out to be anything like Wii Sports, that would be a good thing. Wii Sports was a pretty important title for the Wii, helped market the system's capabilities, and had lasting appeal long after its release date. It's basically all me any my friends did for multiplayer on the system until Brawl came out. With that said, Wii Sports was a pack-in, and whether or not people will buy $70-80 (probably singleplayer?) Labo kits in addition to the $350 Switch remains to be seen.

Who knows though. Nintendo isn't above messing up with weird experiments (I'm looking at you, e-Reader). I could see the Labo being a screwup, but I think it's more likely it will take off for the system's audience. I dunno, but I think Nintendo deserves a little more credit than just writing the Labo off as a bunch of "Barney's bag arts n crafts projects for kids" (quoting a friend of mine who had me in stitches with that remark).
