With 3.0.0 you'll get homebrew in February and custom firmware sometime in the future. So I'd say it's ok.
If you want custom firmware as soon as possible keep searching for a 1.0.0.

If anyone else happens to be in/from 49377 Vechta - Lower Saxony - Germany, these are the devices that I found:
Famila (2018.01.23)
- 1x grey v1.0.0 (mine now, sorry)
- 1x neon v2.3.0 (SN: XAJ701150XXXXX)
- more? (When calling in advance, I was told that they have "a whole row" of devices in stock, but the salesperson could only get me two. This would be my best bet to get a device with a low firmware version.)
