Hacking EZFlash Reform vs EZFlash 3 in 1

Hey all,

So, I have a DS Lite, Wanting to get a card to easily boot GBA games natively. Have a Supercard DSTwo I've had for a few years but the GBA emulation is pretty much trash.

What are your thoughts on the pros,cons, and just overall whats the better option for someone like me, who owns a DS Lite and never intends to purchase a Game boy Advanced of any kind.

Also, not trying to shit on the GBA, just got big hands and really not a fan of either the GBA or GBASP form factors at all, but the DSLite I love. That's why I'm choosing between these 2, so I can get a card that fits flush into my DSLite

Both of these are very good flashcarts, the reform though lets you change the battery if it dies. Most GBA flashcarts die like a normal cartridge forcing people to buy another flashcart. The reform allows you to swap out the battery if needed.

Cool, the reform sounds more appealing due to that fact. Just a few questions about it. I assume the whole point of the 3 in 1 is that it works in tandem with the slot 1 card to boot games, and the Reform jsut works on its own? I actually liek that better in theory as I would rather have it have it's own SD card to store the games. Does the Reform require GBAExploder? or can it just run unpatched games nowadays?

Im basically jsut a bit confused due to that fact that getting an Everdrive x5 is a ton fo money but the Reform is so cheap, and I thought the reason the 3 in 1 was so cheap was because it required a slot 1 card to work. Is the reform just cheaper because of it being 2017 or does it actually work with the slot 1 card? or does it not run certain games that the everdrive x5 can?

I haven't tried the everdrive so I don't know what makes it so different. Money wise you can't really look at the price, the everdrive isn't worth much to be honest, it's just jacked up in price because of brand, color, and models.

Yep, 3in1 is for a combination with a slot-1 card (and has RAM expansion and rumble in addition to GBA support) while the reform works alone. You never needed GBAExploader for Reform/EZ-Flash IV. There was a PC patcher for EZ-Flash IV cards but that's not required any more.
The everdrive comes from another manufacturing structure (not a chinese backyard). I think that it has an integrated clock for pokemon games, better ROM support and faster loading times.

I bought and tried the Reform. It is horrible. The plastic case is very weak, and gets stuck inside SP consoles (and maybe others). The Reform doesn't work in some consoles unless it's in exactly the right place, and can be knocked easily, crashing the game. I own an EZ4 and a Reform, and still use the EZ4.

Great. I was just about to order this Reform cartridge. Good that did not yet.
Reform was from nds-card.com or from ebay/ali/etc.? Btw, card color is solid black or semi-transparent black?

And 3-in-1 need GBAExploader or not? I've read somewhere that 3-in-1 is kinda like sidekick of EZ-Flash V.

Wood supports the 3in1 directly. You can select a .GBA file in the wood menu and it will load the game to the expansion pack. You can use rumble a similar way.

For the 3-in-1 we still need to patch the ROMs, correct? What's the most common tool for that? Preferably one that allows pachting in batches.

Patching for the 3in1 is done from the DS mode loader (aka wood r4). No manual patch is required.

Hi r1vver,

I got my Reform from Levi-Tech UK's eBay shop. To be fair, Levi-Tech are cool, and have a good reputation here in Blighty. It's just the Reform isn't very well designed. The PCB is nice, and has a replaceable battery, so that's good at least. The problem is with the plastic parts you use to construct a case (which are slightly transparent, but darkly tinted, so nearly black). You get three plastic parts and use two to build a GBA cart or a different two to build a cart that fits in a DS flush. The plastic doesn't fit together very well, and nothing feels exactly right. The GBA version of the cart gets stuck inside SP consoles all the time, and getting it out is frustrating, as it feels like it's going to crack

The PCB is decent, and you could slide it down into the console directly or something, but yeah, they need to iterate on the injection moulding.
