ROM Hack [Release] Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector - English Patch

Welcome to the thread for the fan-translation of Neko Atsume for Nintendo 3DS!

In Neko Atsume, gameplay revolves around the player purchasing food, toys, and furniture to attract a variety of cats to the player's home. The player can watch cats interact with objects, take photos of them which can be saved in an album, and receive gifts of fish and mementos from them.

-- All of the text in the game has been translated to English!

-- Translated a few lines we missed.

That's right, it's finally done! The amazing @DarkSynopsis did a great job injecting the official English translations from the mobile version of the game into the 3DS port, and for the text that wasn't in the mobile port, we had an awesome translator, Discord user seikiku. I would never be able to finish this project by myself, so having two such great persons on board was unbelievable!

Install instructions:

-- Download the attached archive, and put the "luma" folder from the archive to the root of your SD card.
-- Obtain the Japanese version of Neko Atsume through whatever means.
-- Enable game patching in Luma's config menu (hold SELECT on boot).
-- Run Neko Atsume from your HOME Menu as you normally would.

(For those that want a .CIA/.3DS release, you know where to look)

Please let us know if you run into any untranslated Japanese text or typos. We did quite a lot of playtesting but it's always possible that something might've slipped past us.

Except for the 3DS features, it should be fairly quick once the tool is available. I've been playing the game on Android in English. They should've just released it in English as well. It's not like most of it is localized already.
Edit: Good job @Lycanroc for a quick release.

The .EVT file has literally the complete English localization, even the 3DS exclusive stuff, so it should be as easy as replacing the Japanese text with corresponding English text.

That makes even less sense. They should have just made it toggle like Blaster Master/Drancia Saga.

Good news everyone!

After months of silence, @DarkSynopsis has picked up the project and is currently working on injecting the official English text into the game!

Here are some screenshots of the current progress:

Buuut, there's a catch. There are still some lines that are exclusive to the 3DS release and don't have any official translations. Which means we're looking for someone who would be willing to help us translate those lines from Japanese to English. If you're interested in helping, you can message @DarkSynopsis or me.

We've also noticed that all of the cats that you collected before the upcoming update will retain their Japanese names, because those get recorded as nicknames in the save file. That means some save editing will most likely be required to have all cat names in English, but again, only if you already played the Japanese release or English patch v0.1.

If you start a new game with the upcoming patch (v1.0), you won't have any problems regarding cat names.

We won't give any release dates as we don't know when or if someone will help us with the remaining Japanese strings, but once we get someone on those, it should be a fairly quick release.

That's right, it's finally done! The archive at the bottom of the post contains the Luma patch with all of the translated text and textures, just put the "luma" folder from the archive to the root of your SD card, and overwrite if prompted. Make sure game patching is enabled in Luma's settings, launch the game, and enjoy!

For those that want a .cia/.3ds release, you know where to look, just give me some time to get it ready.

i have found some untranslated text it appears when you start the game after deleting the save game (using fbi) and you answer yes to recover the old save

Ouch, well, guess that happens when you rush to release the patch as soon as you think everything is done. It seems like that message appears just for a split second so it's not really worthy of releasing an updated patch. Once we get a few more reports, we'll fix them all at the same time.
