Homebrew I got a Nintendo 64 emulator running (extremely poorly) on the New 3DS!

Do you think playable N64 emulation on New 3DS is possible?

  • Yes, of course, the New 3DS has a powerful quad-core processor, so it should easily be capable!

  • No way, the New 3DS isn't powerful enough to correctly emulate a 22-year-old console...

Video Proof!

Can you record a 3 second or so clip where you show the bottom screen? Because, at this point, there's no evidence provided that you couldn't have easily faked.

(And, by the way, your poll irks me. It's fucking arrogant. You blatantly made the "Yes" choice seem more rational and obviously correct than the "No" choice. There's plenty of reason the New 3DS wouldn't be able to emulate the N64. It is very underpowered.)

EDIT: Holy shit. You're covering the bottom screen with your hand?
EDIT 2: At around 2:48, you can see part of the bottom screen. It looks alarmingly like the gray that the Moflex player uses. Hmmm...
EDIT 3 (although it was already proven fake): There's also a cut at 0:43. Why though?

And that's under interpreter?!
Honestly that's really impressive. A lot faster than what I expected.

Speaking of the bottom screen. This one is pretty interesting...

Oh shit. I didn't look at all of the screenshots.
Well, leapin' fuckin' lizards, it's definitely, 100%, beyond a single shadow of a doubt, fake.

Scammer's Got Talent :^)
He'd be kicked out of that show so fast, the fabric of space-time would split.

That one screenshot leads me to believe he wanted to get caught, though. Which is mildly disappointing.
At least, I would hope such a glaring error would be on purpose.

Well isn't this familiar...

Compare the title on the bottom screen from the image in my previous post. Doesn't this look similar?

No, the ROM's filename is "Mario64.v64".

On the bottom screen a few bits of key data is shown, and uses the default system font, which is unfortunately what is also used within the video apps, which doesn't help my case!
I created a small little GUI using the official Nintendo 3DS development tools to display key information in place of the usual verbose debugging logs.

Here's what's actually shown on the bottom screen: (Screenshot coming VERY BLOODY SOON)

- Filename (minus extension)
- File Size
- Framerate / Frametime info
- Polygons on screen
- VI refresh rate
- Current button inputs / mapped inputs

Just to make it clear, I wasn't trying to debunk anything, or claim it's fake. I was just finding it suspicious just as some other users.
If you really did it so it looks like a system app, then you've successfully managed to fool me :P
Then again, I would smash the hammer and claim guilty until proven otherwise. It just looks too good to be true --and if it's all real, I'm seriously impressed.

Why don't you just post the compiled program already? Nobody would be able to say it's fake then.
You didn't embedded the ROM because you claim it's called Mario64.v64 and, according to this, CTR64 is under the Beerware license, so posting a compiled program would be fine.

I used the official Nintendo 3DS API, it just looks a bit crappy (text not centred correctly), that's why I didn't focus on it in the clip.

Mario64.v64 is embedded within the .cia file, would I be allowed to post it here?

If not, maybe snippets of the non-copyrighted source code?

I'm quite sure Nintendo wouldn't take lightly to you for both using their SDK for homebrew purposes, or just telling us you have access to the SDK. You did sign the developer NDA, right?

How soon is "VERY BLOODY SOON?" That screenshot of the bottom screen couldn't be faked (ridiculously easily), and it's the only thing that could prove your semi-innocence.

I must commend you, though, you've got a pretty good scheme set up.
That scheme being:
You make a claim that you've created an emulator, post screenshots and videos (presumably playing in a Moflex player), make a reason as to why it looks exactly like it's in the Moflex player, claim the ROM is embedded in the emulator and you've used their SDK (both reasons you can't share a copy here), and then not post the only possible proof you could have.

Post the screenshot.

A screenshot isn't going to cut it (especially not a direct one since that would be way too easy to fake). Post a video just like the one you did before, but with the bottom screen clearly visible and you showing yourself inputting commands that match the gameplay.

Right now there's nothing telling us this isn't just a video playing. I want to be proven wrong, but that's where we're at.
