Hi folks, I've not played my 3DS in close to a year, and not followed the current scene that closely. The scene has advanced and changed very quickly too, almost an information overload now.

But, I was one of the ones to upgrade my EmuNAND through Gateway, which of course now leads to a black screen. Simply put, I would like the easiest and simplest way of reverting EmuNAND back to 11.2, and keeping my saves in tact.

I do realize the 3ds.guide/boot9strap methods are viewed vastly superior, but I was very happy with my Gateway setup, never had any issues, everything worked, and would prefer to just stick with what I know and was used to.

So, what would be the very simplest way for me to downgrade back to 11.2 EmuNAND? (I'd be very grateful for a step-by-step guide.)

Some key things to note:
-I have an OLD 3DS XL (USA)
-SysNAND is 4.2.0-9U
-I booted into Gateway through the "Nintendo DS Profile" method.
-I'm pretty sure I never backed-up an EmuNAND (but not 100% sure).

You could create a new emuNAND and then upgrade it using a Yoshi Wooly World rom. To do this, back up your SD card data, boot into the Gateway menu (hold L while trying to boot Gateway I think), make a new emuNAND (your personal data will revert to what is on sysNAND), hold Up while selecting boot Gateway mode, then try to run Yoshi from your Gateway card and it will update you to 11.2.
Or of course you could just follow https://3ds.guide on your sysNAND to have the same setup as 99% of people here :-p (Won't lose your emuNAND's data).

Do you know where to find the right firmware one? The one in the guide is 11.5 and there's a 9.2 one if you use Web archive, but they would still have to update with Yoshi
yes but that would preserve the emunand with everything, the process that you suggest if he has the nands unlinked would render the saves useless, with ctr nand of 9.2 should be enough and then update using cias or yoshi like you said

Thanks so much for the answers and help. Would be interested in trying the CTR NAND 9.2, from web archive, then updating with Yoshi to get to 11.2 but could someone please link me to the CTR NAND guide? I'm having trouble finding it.

One final question before I do this, do you know the chances of my saves working after doing this?

Rom Saves or .cia saves?
If you backup the rom saves, i think you just need to drag them to the console sd.

Do the tutorial of cfw after you finished the process of creating the new emunand, you can use both with the cfw'ed sysnand (i.e 11.x.x SysNand and 11.2 EmuNand) using this tutorial right here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/

I think you can extract your emunand .cia saves with GM9, but you will need cfw first

I have rom saves (.3DS and .3DZ). Are these saves already on the SD card, and I need to just copy them to my computer?

Card1 games (most of them): the saves are these .sav files on the console's sd, so i think is only needed to backup the .sav and dragging to the sd after doing the emunand formating process using the same rom.
Card2 games (Animal Crossing, Tomodachi Life, Pokémon): the saves are built-in the rom, so just use the same rom.

If you are unsure about upgrading to the newer hacking methods due to the lack of documentation, you can refer to this post that I wrote.

If you have any questions about how the newer hacking methods work, ask me

so what you did was failed to follow the day one rule, and performed a console firmware update while in emunand.

backup your data, wipe your sd card, this removes emunand, then find which ever guide you like to update emunand again.

or

go for stargate 3ds, it works on all console firmwares, offers 3DS/DS rom support and emulators coming soon.

only downfall is for now there is no cheat code engine like gateway had, its also not region free, roms have to be same region as your console.

Stargate 3DS, its a new flashcard.

I'm actually surprised GBATEMP haven't covered a review on it.

If any admins here know that no one has a review for it, i could because i have early production units at hand.
I know what it is. In fact, there has been a thread open in gbatemp about the stargate 3DS ever since it was announced.

What I cannot understand is why would you recommend the Stargate 3DS to anyone. It is an overpriced 3DS flashcart, that has the same limitations as a Sky3DS (no CFW, no proper emulators, the list goes on)
If you want to get games, get a ntrboot ds flashcart. The cheapest costs 12$, and that's 78$ cheaper than a Stargate 3DS. And on top of that you get a free DS flashcart at the end to use for playing DS games.
And by the way, OP doesn't need anything, as they are on 4.2 and can install CFW easily whenever they want to.

The whole argument about "it's so easy, it's just drag & drop and then plug & play" is 100% bullshit, since they make it seem like you need to know about elliptic curve cryptography to install CFW onto your 3DS. You don't, the guide has 0 prerequisites.

this is a decent card, it does it all in one, emulators are coming soon to play snes ect.

even tho the cfw guide is easy to follow and is somewhat risk free, there are still loads of people who manage to fuck it up and complain about bricking because they fail to read.

but even tho cfw advantage is that its free, it also voids your console warranty and myself would prefer a flashcard because its safer and if i plan on selling any of my 3ds consoles i can and know 100% that its risk free to the buyer of getting banned.
