whats the advantage of using the freeshop versus downloading the games on pc and transferring to the sd card?? As far as I know, the 3ds wifi is horrible, games will probably take an eternity to download, could someone enlighten me?

It's all done on the 3ds, you don't need to wait for the download to finish on your computer, then wait for the transfer to your sd card to finish, it downloads it on your 3ds and installs it.

Also, it's convenient.

For installing offline, you need twice as much space; half for the .CIA and the other half for the installation. With freeshop, the game installs as the download progresses.

Is it that you have no need of using this and just want it autoconfigured? or is there usage planned sometime for it?

You don't want to run the cia version, but surely you can run the homebrew version? What's the problem? If you care about your activity log, running it from homebrew will only show Download Play. If you don't want to use it at all why do you care about configuring it anyway? Another option is to install and configure it on another console, then copy and paste the freeShop folder in 3ds/data to the first console.

I install these for friends. I do not want to take the time to open freeshop (takes quite a long time, and cannot be done without an internet connection) to update the titlekey URL. I simply want to autoconfigure it without launch, so I can finish up the task quickly. For example, it could be as simply as letting me copy a file (settings.ini or something similar) over from my SD card that will autoconfigure the titlekey URL, so that it will read that upon first launch. This should not be difficult, and could very well be already baked in. How does freeshop CURRENTLY store this information? Probably in the titlekey folder, right? Is the titlekey always the same? In those cases, could I write a script for godmode9 to put the settings file into the folder?

If you have a 3ds yourself with freeshop set up the way you want it, and the way your friends would also want to have it. You can find the settings file from with the sdcard root > 3ds > data > freeshop. You will find everything you need stored within there.

So if I'm setting up a new 3ds with freeshop, I can just put that there and have it preconfigured? Sorry if I was unclear before.

well i installed freeshop by qr code today and i cant download anything. when i try to download something the app crashes and restarts the system. I have a N3ds XL and I installed B9S (with everything else) today by following the guide

what could be the problem? I tried it 3 times already and same result, keeps crashing. I also tried deleting the freeshop and reinstalling it with the same results, I also tried checking the "Disable ARM11 exception handlers" in Luma config: same results

Please help

Also there is no music in freeshop, I have the play eshop music tab but nothing plays. I used and dumped DSP1 (2 times), still no music. could this be related?

Im using latest version of everything

I still haven't been able to get music working on my N3DS (non-XL) either. I thought I may have copied over the dspfirm file, so I tried deleting it and dumping again, but still no music (the awful test tones in the dumper itself sound fine btw.) Sound effects all work fine though. Oddly enough I recently got a N2DS I had thought I might switch to (though one of the things making me think I may just stick to the old N3DS is how horrible the sound is on the N2DS) and the music works on it. I even tried deleting all the cache/etc files in the /3ds/data/freeshop folder, turning a few options off and back on, sliding the volume all the way down and all the way up, etc etc. I even have "allow music on inactivity mode" though it shouldn't affect normal non-idle usage obviously. I also tried copying the entire freeshop folder over from the N2DS over to the N3DS. But still nothing will make the music work. I know it's a relatively unimportant, relatively minor thing, but I really want to get the music working and I even have a rather nice track that seems to suit it fairly well and is comfortable to leave going while it downloads for a long time on larger things.

BTW, if anyone actually reads these, I have a suggestion: it would be very useful to have a sorting mode that shows the most recently ADDED stuff first. Not the most recent release, but whatever has been most recently added to the key list. Many times an older game is added to the list and figuring out what it is without actually going over to a computer and going to that site can be a real pain. I noticed Villain3DS seems to be showing most recently added stuff first by default. At least it seems like it is.

What's the file format of the music? Where on your SD card are you putting it?
About your suggestion, freeShop doesn't technically support piracy, free refers to being free from Nintendo's limits, so odds are that will not happen.

This doesn't matter. As I said, it's the exact same files on the N2DS and N3DS in the exact same place. I'll answer anyway. The format is properly converted bcstm using the exact same files on both devices (not just different copies or something, but literally copied to both at the same time in the same way. They are bit-exact down to having the same creation time even.) The files are placed in /3ds/data/freeshop/music on both devices. Since it's an exact copy to both the N3DS and N2DS this is obviously not the problem.

Uhm, it's open source software being at least presumably somewhat actively developed. And who said anything about piracy? All I said was sorting. Are you using FreeShop for piracy? You shouldn't you know.

That seems to imply RSS, because I don't think the enctitlekey.bin is sorted by what's most recent as far as I know.

A friend of mine is trying to install this, but we're having an issue.

Freeshop works fine on my console, but on hers, it comes up with the homebrew logo, then black screens. It won't respond until it's force shutdown. Is there precedent for this, has someone seen this before?

Could you give more info? What version of freeshop? What's your 3ds' firmware? What CFW are you running?

I updated to freeshop 3.1.8 today (from 3.0.0 I believe) and for testing purposes I installed a small game which went OK. Then I uninstalled it again, through freeshop, and the app freezes up completely. I have to do a hard console reboot to get access to the console again. If I then enter freeboot (getting an error message that it wasn't closed properly the previous time, DUH), the uninstalled game is gone from the installed-games list, which is good.

But why did the app freeze when uninstalling a game?
