A common fix for this issue is installing the WiiMC forwarder Channel and renaming the name in your apps folder of this to "WiiMC" so the forwarder can detect it. Simply open the forwarder Channel and it should work fine
thanks for replying. but how can I install the forwarder?

Glad to see more support for Wii! Kinda sad how the support ended on this tho; Amazing how people can revive stuff! ^^

Thanks for this. The problem I'm having is that the videos stop playing at a random point, and because there is no fast forward feature so I cant continue off where I left. This makes watching movies or anything 20 mins or longer impossible....

I'm trying to set up my own server, I can run a search query fine, but when it comes to watching the video, it says file not found, even with the forwarder. I ran it on Windows beforehand and the video downloads to the cache folder, but I cannot watch it on my Wii.

I did remove stdout = open("/dev/null", "w") from the script because no matter what, it would always deny permissions to my folder.

The download no longer works. :-( It downloads as an HTML file with an incorrect extension of a zip. Here is a snapshot of the HTML file when the extension is corrected...

I know this is a bit old and I don't know if this application is still supported/being developed or not, but I just soft modded my old Wii recently and would love to have the ability to watch Youtube on it.

-Thanks!
