Seriously dude if you aren't excited for Mario odyssey I don't know why you bought it in the first place go trade it for the psvr nobody is going to try and stop you.

I have a PS4 pro switch and Xbox one I just buy whatever cool looking game comes out for whatever system it's for and play it never had a problem with being distracted. Right now I'm super excited for Mario but that's not making me consider getting rid of my other games.
good answer baby, perfect and simple like that i own every system out there too and i love them.

The switch might not have much now (games and apps) But it's gonna get a lot of cool stuff soon. Besides, the switch is both a console and a handheld
and the vr's life span is short, developers won't really bother with making actual games for it (maybe handful of games but that's it). Just stick around with the switch for a while, In value, the switch is so much better.

To each their own. I personally got bored of VR wihtin a couple of weeks. Its a neat novelty that I'll toy around with every now and then, but it by no means is going to be something I spend a lot of my time playing daily like I do with the Switch.

Yeah, as much as I've been championing the PSVR this entire thread, how on earth can someone NOT be excited for Mario Odyssey?? Besides Zelda BOTW it's the number 1 reason to own a Switch right now. Hell, last night I finally caved in and upgraded my Switch from 2.1.0 to 4.0.0 and man, I don't regret it one bit!! Friday couldn't come fast enough!!

Bought a switch after launch and although I think its a great console with loads of potential I feel it's still not there yet and there is just not enough games that i like yet, I've been looking into VR for PS4 for the last few weeks now and although VR is also not quite there yet I do feel that it's the way for me to go for the next few years, at least until the switch really starts taking off or turns into a VR/ Augmented reality system as a few have speculated.
So what are your guys thoughts?

Also as I have Zelda DLC and a few digital purchases on my switch. Is it possible to delete my Switch account, but leave the DLC/Digital games active for the buyer ? would be a shame to waste them.
Alright, seeing as I have a Switch, PSVR and a PC VR, I feel like I could really contribute here.

VR
Since you mentioned price range, there's two VR options that would look good to you.
1. PSVR
2. Microsoft Mixed Reality VR

The PSVR headset is $299 for just the headset. You'll also need the PS camera and if you want the most out of it, the two Move controllers. That makes it $399 if you get the whole kit. If you already have the camera or Move controllers, then you can save some money that way. I hope you have a PS4 Pro though as there is noticeable difference in VR between the two. Also, PSVR has a version 2 coming out with better cable management and HDR capability.

The Windows Mixed Reality VR starts at $299 for just the headset but if you want the motion controllers it's another $100 for a total of $399. The Windows Mixed Reality VR does not require a camera, it has cameras on the headset that do the tracking so you can have room scale VR and tracking that's far superior to the PSVR. It does require a gaming PC and Windows 10, but pretty low specs:
Specs said:
Intel Core i5 4590 (4th generation) / AMD Ryzen 5 1400
8GB DDR3
NVIDIA GTX 960 / AMD RX 460
USB 3.0
Bluetooth 4.0

PSVR
Pros: You already have a console it works with, the PS4. Games released for PSVR are backed by big companies and multiplayer VR games will have a greater base to play with and since the PS4 has built-in party and match making it'll be easy to find other VR players to play with.

Cons: It's weaker hardware, the lowest resolution VR out there and the Move controllers were never meant for VR and quite frankly, suck. If they came out with a PSVR2 with real motion controls, I'd reconsider.

Windows Mixed Reality VR
Pros: Requires no camera setup, has full range room scale motion, allows for safety boundary setups (virtual fence to make sure you don't bump into things) and the motion controllers are much better (especially for shooters). Resolution and quality is on-par and sometimes better then the other PC-based VR headsets like Oculus and Vive.

Cons: Requires a gaming PC with the specs I listed above as the minimum and it's game library is fairly small until it gets SteamVR support this holiday season. Will likely get surpassed by newer tech in the next few years.

Switch
Pros: A long line of AAA games in Nintendo's history, it's design allows for easy party and multiplayer gaming. You won't be tethered to a device like the PS4 or PC, hell not even your TV since you can pick it up and play anywhere in the house.

Cons: Poor online infrastructure, last generation hardware for graphics and processing power, and restrictive customizations and no social aspect like gamer scores, trophies, or communities. To be fair, these could potentially be fixed by future software updates, but come on, it's Nintendo. I'm being realistic.

Bottom Line
If you're used to the PS4, are satisfied with the games there, want 4K graphics, like the online party system and sharing and growing your gaming ego with trophies, get the PSVR. You can even opt for a Vita and get remote play for a Switch like experience.

If you have a gaming computer and are mostly interested in the VR aspect, then Windows Mixed Reality VR will have a wider variety of VR software with better immersion and tracking. It even works with high-end laptops, put it in a backpack and have free-roam VR. Look into the nVidia Shield for remote playing of PC games if your gaming PC uses nVidia graphics card.

You can get a Switch later down the line if games for it start to peak your interest more, they won't be going anywhere for a while and may even have a newer revision or a type of Switch Mini by then.

Owning both I can say:

The immersion of VR is unparalled, but the platform is in it's infancy, Sales haven't been stellar hence the lack of full blown AAA games (RE7 being the exclusion) Skyrim and a small scope DOOM release don't class as AAA anymore to me, personally.

I'd keep your Switch and save your cash to get a PSVR as well :D.

Just like how everyone thought motion controls were great for the Wii they got old and people started to get tired of using the controllers at some point. The same is going to happen to VR at some point.

So I would hold off on trading the console for just that one feature.

All these people saying VR is going to die off, smh. VR is in its infancy and it's got plenty of time to go, there wouldn't be companies going into things like OpenXR if it was just going to off and die out of nowhere. Personally though I can agree that it's a bit clunky right now, can't quite slip on a headset and go just yet with PC VR, and mobile VR needs work. Waiting is always an option at least.

Anyhow, I wouldn't personally sell off Switch for PSVR, mostly because Switch will be getting more games than PSVR. PSVR probably won't be flooded with titles just because of the risky nature of developing for expensive peripherals. There's some good ports though, SUPERHOT VR is pretty great and I'm a bit of a sucker for like, drawing/alone-in-an-environment stuff. Good stress relief if I'm tired of looking at people or w/e. I'd at least recommend trying to find someone who has a PSVR (or a store demo or something) so you can at least try before you buy.

Thanks for all your views and comments I sold it, decided to save the cash for now, and although I do really like the idea of having PSVR I think I will wait.

I will have to disagree with everyone saying VR will die out though, especially considering its been around in the headset form since the 90's and now with the graphical capabilities of the PS4, it seems like the perfect time for VR, I think that once the updated VR headset will launch and the older ones become more affordable that will be the turning point. I like to think back to the PS1 era and compare the PS1 to VR its a turning point in gaming history, Just like the PS1 revolutionised 3D gaming and bought those games into your living room I think the PSVR will pave the way to the inevitable future of gaming which is Virtual Reality, and who better to be at the forefront than Sony?

Don't get me wrong I'm a massive Nintendo fan and the 3DS is my favourite console of this generation honestly and, I really believe the switch will do well and I will get one again when the time is right, which isn't now imo.

I would love to see a world where the major players in gaming are Nintendo and Sony Wouldn't you? both of these companies made gaming what it is today Sega can stake a claim in that too But Sony and Nintendo are bitter rivals with totally different hardware and that is a recipe for some fecking great games I rekon, but now with Sega out of the race and the bundles of PS4 exclusives including VR, and the switches great success at launch it seems like it may well be true in the not too distant future.
Personally I think that would be gaming heaven with the xbox burning in hell fires ring of death. One can only hope.

Honestly? If you're constantly buying and selling you're going to lose money over time - especially if you flip flop. In the grand scheme of things the hardware doesn't keep it's cost and downloaded games are effectively a write off. That should be an important consideration.

Right now I just treat my systems as investments. I have a Switch and an Xbox One S (That I bought cheap from a liquidator) and whenever a game comes out I can predownload it without having to worry about tracking down a system or a cartridge. My Wii U is set up and I can play any of my Wii and Wii U game collection whenever i want.

Vr isn't that good all it is really is a screen on your head that gives you head aches and makes you feel sick when i tried it out i felt like i was going to throw up. It won't ever feel real enough because your just looking at a screen in a headset.

I don't think VR will die out but I do think it's got an incredibly long way to go before it's generally accepted as "better" or "superior" to a standard gameplay experience.
I've played Resident Evil 7 in both VR and standard configurations and TBH I much prefer the controller & TV setup.
At the moment VR is cumbersome, expensive and limited in application, VR doesn't really do anything for a game like Age of Empires or Dark Souls and if anything detracts from those experiences.
I don't think VR has no future but it has an excess of hurdles to climb before it's anywhere near as good and convenient as just picking up a controller or opening steam.
The Switch meanwhile is just a console, it will reach it's full potential in like 2 years or so depending on whenever you think the library of games is good enough to warrant the cost of the console.
I think VR is a lot more than 2 years away from reaching it's full potential and becoming a mainstream standard in gaming.

VR does not need to be the "standard" or replace normal gaming to be relevant. There are also strategy games and Souls-likes in VR already.

That said: the baseline experience for proper VR is Rift or Vive. PSVR is missing good motion controls, 360 degree tracking, and room-scale play. Hopefully Sony adds these things in the future instead of just forgetting about the PSVR brand.

i have tried VR at a friends..

and umm this is just a personal opinion but the VR is only for those who have lots of money to spend.
it is not that revolutionary as some may say..

it is in the end a gimick, it felt like something 3d'ish poppin out in front of you, i would not say it is not cool.

but i would never trade a switch for a vr, just not worth it..

keep your switch.

The OP was talking about VR being the future of gaming, if that's the context I think it's still pretty far off. I don't have a problem with VR, I just don't think it's all there yet.
I didn't mean those types of games don't exist, just that VR doesn't really add much to the gamplay experience, playing Civ VI with a Vive doesn't really offer that much of a gameplay improvement over a mouse and keyboard.
When VR is wireless, cheap, good quality and more convenient I have no doubt it'll explode.

It makes the experience different, but not necessarily worse. Obviously you're going to design a game for 1:1 motion controls differently than you'd design a game for mouse and keyboard. I'll grant you that playing "normal" games doesn't feel great in VR, but within the next year or two we'll have so many games designed specifically for VR that it shouldn't matter. Plus a lot of VR mods for games like Doom 3 and GTAV.

VR gaming is not the future, even though that crap brand owner state so... Even less when games are that expensive and relatively "easy" to develop for a VR device. Those "limited", "extended", and so on editions will be the mains on it.

VR gaming will be attractive to a very few gamers, and also, not all will be able to enjoy it, as vr sickness and disorientation is something to keep in mind. So then, playing sessions would have to be very limited on time extension.

"The Landmower Man" comes to mind.

Personally, and this is just my opinion, I wouldn't change it. VR looks like a gimmick to me, not many games I'm interested to play. Only game I can think of right of the top of my head is Resident Evil 7 VR.

Switch has more potential, again, this is just my opinion.
yup same here RE 7 looks like it is the only real game for PS VR
