I've looked everywhere and mostly I've found tutorials on how to install haxchi on 5.5.2 but nothing answers my questions.

I'm currently on 5.5.1 with many backups and haxchi installed. Can run mocha via haxchi and install USB games etc.

1, do backups still work on 5.5.2? I have converted all my disk games to run directly from USB on my WiiU and nothing says if they will still work on 5.5.2?
2, does everything else still work in 5.5.2? Haxchi is said to work but does that need to be updated to a 5.5.2 version or still the current version keep working?
Will mocha work like it does now? I load up haxchi then load mocha and all is good.

The problem I have is I deleted the UPDATE directory so nothing updates that's how I've kept it on 5.5.1 but games like minecraft want to keep updating so I need to re-enable the update directory so minecraft can update but that means the system will also update to 5.5.2.

ATM I manually update anything that wants an update. Currently downloading the latest minecraft update.

So, will everything work like it does now? All my games still work?
As I said, I've backed up all my disk games to USB and run them directly on the WiiU. Its not a piracy thing its a backup thing. Backups are legal as I do own the disk.

Everything works, yet no benefit of updating tbh, unless you want online access and eshop. The WiiU is a dead system and considered legacy now.

Mine is on 5.5.1 cbhc (plus rather keep a more stable browserhax too) and I update my games using manual updates with WUPinstaller.

Yea, I want to transfer stuff in minecraft from WiiU to Switch and it needs latest update and internet access to do that.
If I upgrade to 5.5.2 it will automatically download the latest update and it's got internet access so it will be good but I wanted to make sure everything worked before I upgraded.

If haxchi is already installed then why bother with an exploit? It's already got homebrew access so I no longer care for exploits.
And there is already exploits for 5.5.2, so really no need to stay on 5.5.1 from what I see.

If everything will work like normal then i'll upgrade.
thanks

More than likely this is a wiiu.guide follower. We've never recommended using HaxChi to load Mocha here on gbatemp.

It's redundant. Why use one CFW launch point to load another CFW?

Unless you have a specific need for Mocha, you should also consider just using Haxchi's built in CFW instead. It works fine for 99.9% of users' needs
I dont want a permanent CFW AS thats how you get banned. I want a sometimes CFW like mocha.
All haxchi does for me is load up homebrew channel. so what's this CFW thing? It's been so long since I've installed it I've forgotten what it does.

EDIT: I've just read about haxchi cfw and I didn't install it as there are too many brick risks. I have kids that use this console too so having haxchi only as homebrew channel loader is a lot safer. They cant screw up the console.
Thats why I use haxchi to load up mocha for a full cfw. Its the safe way without any brick risks.

Everything works like normal coz its not a modded system, it is a normal system till you run mocha via haxchi.

And btw, thanks for your input. I've fixed a few network problems I has and stayed on 5.5.1 for now as I manually updated minecraft and still have full internet access except for the eshop which is not needed currently. I will be upgrading soon thou. Dont want to manually upgrade every single game every time an update comes out.
I thought you needed to update to play online? Looks like you dont. Played minecraft, splatoon, COD and a few others last night and they all work fine on 5.5.1

The brick risks you are taking about is for CBHC. CBHC essentially launches Haxchi's CFW automatically for you at boot so you don't have to launch it yourself. By default Haxchi launches the HBL. To access it's CFW instead, just hold 'B' while it's launching and it will kick you right back to the system menu. You are now in CFW. BTW you can change Haxchi's boot behavior by modifying the config.txt that comes with the installer to your liking and reinstalling Haxchi. That way you can boot CFW by default and have HBL boot by holding 'B' or however your heart desires.

Its still easier the way I have it now. It boots like a normal wiiu, plays everything like a normal wiiu and only loads cfw or hbl when I want it to. I dont want automatically doing anything, I want it to be as stock as I can until I choose when.
I only need HBL to install the manual updates so no real need for a full CFW for me. Everything works so why give it that risk of a brick if something does go wrong? If something goes wrong now I just delete the problem game and its fixed. If something goes wrong wtih CBHC you have a brick. No thanks. I dont want that risk.

You don't understand what I'm saying. You already have Haxchi installed. Just hold 'B' while it's launching and instead of HBL you will be in CFW. How is that harder than letting it boot HBL and then booting CFW from there? Haxchi isn't just for launching the HBL, it can launch any .elf OR it's own built-in CFW. This can be adjusted via the method I described in my previous post.

I must be using an old version of haxchi as when I load it up holding B nothing happens, it still boots directly into HBL.
I DONT have CBHC installed for the brick risks.
I dont have a config file, I think it was the first or 2nd release of haxchi I have installed before cbhc was added or even thought of.
Just looked at the latest version of haxchi and i don't have any of those files so I'm using a really old version.

Looks like the latest version will add that CFW you talk about but my current version doesn't have that.

There are no files to replace. I dont even have the haxchi folder.
Told ya it was most likely the 2nd version of haxchi I have installed. It was just copy these files over the originals and there you go. No configs, no installer, just copy and your done.
I dont even think there was an installer for the first 2 or so versions? I think that came after I already had it installed?
Going to try it out now and hope it doesn't screw anything up.

Its really convenient to have the different boot options by holding different buttons at launch. You should definitely upgrade to the latest by simply reinstalling over your old Haxchi. Even if you still like Mocha for its occasional benefit, you can set it as one of your options

Just installed the new haxchi and It is a little quicker to load CFW now but it now comes up with "processing" before haxchi loads.
Anyway thanks. Dont need mocha anymore and I can also remove the fw.img loader as that's also built into the latest haxchi.
I havent loaded fw.img for so long I've forgotten what its used for anyway. I know I needed for something ages ago so its still there but not needed anymore I think?

The fw.img loader is there as an option in case you want to compile your own fw.img. It's not required at all

You don't need fw.img anymore, you can now play with the config.txt and make Haxchi boot to CFW by default instead of holding b, and make b for HBL instead, or you can assign any button to load and homebrew app.

I'm trying to set up other buttons but I cant find a tutorial or anything other than default, A and B. What about Y and X?
