Welcome back Tempers! and shaunj66!, to...
6t24he.png

In this quirky little activity you tempers can get to know eachother a little better.

Know Your Temps rules and information:
  • General forum rules apply, do not break those!
  • Members can ask as many questions as they want, please keep it to one post, do not turn the thread into a personal chatbox!
  • Do not ask uncomfortable questions
  • Do not make use of question templates, these will be treated as spam!
Make up some original questions and if someone has already asked a question you wanted to ask, you could ask them why they like it or ask them to share their opinion on it.
  • If you signed up for KYT, you'll be required to actively participate in asking questions to others.
Last KYT, there where a lot of people who did not bother asking questions to others whilst they where on the session list, which resulted in emptyish threads and circlejerking with others.
Your session will be scrapped from the list if you don't actively participate in asking things to your fellow attendee's.
Not only will this prevent empty sessions, this will also generate more interest in your own KYT.
  • Please keep circlejerking to the EoF.
This means memes and things like lenny faces and what not should not be in your question list!
  • Tempers that change their names and fail to notify me will be booted off the list, no exceptions.
  • Tempers that get suspended will be booted off the list, no exceptions.
  • If you're unavailable around the time your session is due, please send me a PM in advance and I'll put your session on hold.
  • If you want your session to be moved backwards, please PM me in advance and I'll move it backwards or put it on hold.
  • If you don't log in for 2 weeks consecutively, I will remove you from the KYT list, no exceptions.
Last KYT, there where some people who didn't log in for a couple of weeks and did show up right before or right after their session.
  • Sessions will run for ~72 hours, In this time you'll get a 12 hourly status update from me saying your session is up to create more interest.
  • I will send the user with an upcoming session a notification, 72 hours in advance that their KYT is about to start as a reminder

This fun and engaging activity helps us get to know you better, in an exciting, chaotic way! Remember to be kind and have fun!

In This Session: @shaunj66 will be on stand for questioning!

For updates on KYT, refer to this thread

How much time do you spend during the day maintaining GBAtemp and it's sister sites?
Do you or Costello think GBAtemp is a successful website right now?
What are the plans for upcoming bounties? Will there be more specific rules for the entries next time, i.e. programming based contests?
How are you doing? :D

Hey hey!
How are you doing?
Do you know of me?
Did you know that I actually run this site? (don't tell Costello)
What is your favorite video game?
Do you watch anime?
Favorite DS game?
Favorite TV show?
Least favorite of the above mentioned questions?
How did you get into the homebrew scene?
Do you still talk to Ace? If so, how he's doing?
Do you plan on expanding your adminship to outside of the Temp and taking over the world?
Do you own a NES or SNES Classic?
Favorite thing you've ever hacked?

How'd you feel about Sonic Mania?
Plan on giving Forces a try?
Going to play Sonic Continuum?
Any other Twitch streams planned?
Will you give yourself a cake when you reach twenty years on the site?

  • Lately my time has been quite precious so I haven't been on as much as I'd like but I'd say at least an hour a day at the moment goes to GBAtemp (I'm not really involved in FileTrip lately). Back in the day I would spend the majority of the working day on the site
  • Not as successful as it was in our hey-day when GBA and DS flash kits were most popular but I'm still constantly surprised how well the site continues to do
  • I don't think the last bounty was as successful nor planned as well as it could have been. We're reviewing how to handle these in the future in line with the current Patreon total
  • Pretty stressed at the moment to be honest both professionally and personally. There's simply not enough hours in the day

  • See above
  • Of course :)
  • Yes, sir, ma'am, sir!
  • Favourite game? Two months ago I would have said Sonic 3&K - now I'm not sure
  • Anime? Not since the late 90s/early 2000's. I preferred the rougher drawn cyber punk 80s style stuff then
  • Favourite DS game - New Super Mario Bros, mostly for the local multiplayer that me and Costello would play together for hours on end
  • Favourite TV show - probably "classic" Simpsons but also Seinfeld, The Office (UK), Fawlty Towers etc
  • "How are you doing?" I hate small talk
  • How did I get into "homebrew"? - I remember being super excited for the GBA when it was first released - I had just started a full time job on minimum wage and couldn't wait for it to release - of course on minimum wage I could not afford many games so I eventually resorted to GBA emulation and then flash carts and it developed from there. However, game "backups" were something I was always aware of even back in the days of the ZX Spectrum I would copy friends cassette tapes on my parents tape deck
  • Re: Ace - I haven't talked to him in a long time. We were quite good friends at one point. He seems to be doing very well and I'm happy for him as he worked hard for it
  • Re: expanding "adminship" - there have been various projects we've worked on in the past, none have come to fruition in the way that GBAtemp did. I'd love to get more involved in expanding the site and possibly working on it full time but it just never happened. World domination is still on the backburner....
  • NES/SNES classic - no, besides it looking smart on my shelf or whatever I don't see the point really. My TV setup already allows for emulation of many systems and probably is more capable
  • Favourite thing I ever hacked? I remember being one of the first in the world to get the first Wii modchip and reviewing it (Wiinja) that was a hell of a lot of fun. But I remember reviewing so many DS flash carts I eventually had a drawer full of pretty much every one ever made

  • I'm still trying to work out if Sonic Mania has surpassed 3K for me - in a lot of ways it has but the lack of original zones diminishes a lot of the potential it had. I need more time to consider it
  • Sonic Forces looks like everything I hate in modern Sonic games with it's "edgy" tone and angsty tween-rock sound track. I couldn't be less interested
  • Yeah it looks promising
  • Twitch streams from me? No. I don't have the gift-of-the-gab required
  • Re: 20 years on GBAtemp - no I'll more likely just be wondering where the hell 20 years have gone

Hiya there! :D
What's your favorite 3D sonic game, and why is Sonic 3K so much better than it in every way? :P
If you could name a favorite episode or season of the Simpsons, which would it be?
What's your favorite fruit?

Hello Just going to prod your brain with these questions if you dont mind
  1. What do you think of the current state the site is on?
  2. Did you ever think this site would last?
  3. What temp era(time in gbatemp's history) would you go back to if you had the chance?
  4. Who was you favorite temp member?
  5. Are there multiple people helping create the sites new features or is it just you?
  6. What was the most difficult time for you in relation to gbatemp?

Hey shaun!
Tell me how you came to the site and got involved in it in the early days.
What was better, the GBA days or NDS days?

  • Sonic Generations was alright. I really liked the style of Sonic Lost World visually - not gameplay
  • Marge vs. the Monorail
  • Boring but apples. Also pineapple!
Why are there two admins here?
  • Never heard the expression 2 heads are better than one?
Sonic 3K or Sonic Mania?
  • Don't make me choose!
Do you hope to see GBAtemp still fully operational in 2022?
  • If we are I would hope it has evolved into something greater :)

  • No sorry, not me!
  • In general? Front-end. I like developing user interfaces and the visual side

  • The site seems pretty stable at the moment but it doesn't take much for a site to go stagnant or make a bad decision that could effect userbase
  • To be honest I never really gave that much thought, but I suppose I wouldn't have imagined it still being around 15 years later when I first really got involved.
  • The GBA flash cart/early-DS days were the best - mainly because I had the time, energy and connections to get involved with everything and really contribute to the site and scene
  • It's an obvious answer but Costello for obvious reasons :)
  • I don't really develop site features - I suggest and design some but the coding would mostly be TJ - I just handle the branding, style and interfaces
  • The most difficult time would be a few years ago when I became distracted due to real life issues and couldn't devote time to the site or the friends I had made here. At one point I wanted to resign but Clem didn't let me and that in turn actually gave me the kick I needed which actually led to me designing the latest site skin

  • I first discovered GBAtemp when it was a simple blog style site for the latest GBA ROMs posted by KiVan - I started out helping rehosting ROMs for Kivan where ever I could. Then one day I logged on and the site had become a forum and I immediately registered (I'm member #31). I was quite a frequent poster and helped Kivan rehosting ROMs and eventually got promoted to staff and worked my way up from there by contributing articles, reviews, news posts for flash kit news etc. Kivan one day messaged me on IRC and told me he was done with the site and asked for me to take it over for him, I humbly accepted and became administrator and that's pretty much it :)

Sorry if any of these have been asked already.

What kind of work do you do?
Is gbatemp a project for income or fun?
What kind of changes do you see in the future for gbatemp?
Where did tempy come from?
Are you irl friends with any members?
Do you have any hobbies beyond technology?
Where you ever a member of any other online communities that we may know of?

What kind of "Sonic" character you hope to make in Sonic Forces? (Will he look like your avatar?) :P
Doubt I'll be playing it!

  • I work in IT support, but I'm no longer happy with it and am considering a career change
  • GBAtemp is and always has been a hobby for fun. I've never really made any money from the site nor have any of the other staff members
  • The future of GBAtemp is quite uncertain really. As new consoles become more sophisticated in their prevention of modding/piracy the userbase of people willing to invest the time and effort will likely shrink by a large margin when compared to the easily accessible DS flash carts. There will always be a niche to cater to but I think we'll have to further expand into covering other consoles and more general gaming news/reviews etc. to stay relevant. Thankfully the cost of running the site outside of the server is minimal thanks to our volunteer staff, so I don't think GBAtemp will be going anywhere anytime soon, but we do need to consider how we keep traffic flowing
  • Tempy was originally designed by @Alexander (member #2) and you can see the very first iteration of him below. He was then tidied up by Alex for the final version of Tempy v1 for the forum. I later redesigned Tempy in the v2 version (I really hate this one). Then later I redesigned him in v3 for the GBAtemp Limited Edition DSTWO and the design was also used in GBAtemp v5

  • DAZA has been a friend of mine for the longest time (17 years). I am also close friends with Costello - we were in a house share for a time and I had the pleasure of attending his home in France several times as well as his wedding. I have also met a lot of others; mostly in London - we've had a few meetups there - most recently the hands-on Switch event but when myself and Costello visited America together we went on a road-trip and ending up meeting loads of American members during our travels. I'm sure there have been other meet ups that I've forgotten about and I couldn't possibly begin to list all the members I've met here but I must say that every single encounter has been nothing but enjoyable!
  • I love cartoons/animation and illustrating - I have created a couple of animations which are on my YT channel , and have others in the works. I have also illustrated a children's book and done plenty of other drawings (I have some on Deviantart)
  • GBAtemp is by far the most active I've been online. I've not really spent as much time on any other forums as I have here though I was quite active for a while on the UK board (313) of GameFAQs but that was years ago now and pretty obscure. Outside of the 'temp and Reddit I don't really get involved online much - I'm the lurking type..
