So i have a Australian SNES Mini and i knew from day one that if you could backup to prevent bricking Snes Mini i wanted to hack it to add games like DKC2 and Super Mario All Stars
I've watched ADH gaming's guide on youtube and it seems simple enough but when browsing reddit a few other questions had come to mind.

Easiest one regarding the player selection option in hakshi, what happens if you set a 2 player game like Donkey Kong Country 2 (which i think uses simultaneous 2 player? I think Super Mario All stars uses alternating) with just 1 player or alternating? Does the game not boot or something like that?

The other question is this Retro arch thing people keep mentioning and some problem games out there, i guess i would like to install it and there are a couple of reddit threads like this one here that show how to do it but a question or 2 for that one as well
https://www.reddit.com/r/nesclassicmods/comments/61c2j1/step_by_step_for_setting_up_hakchi2_with/

When you install Retroarch does that mean every game will now boot with that option? Or can you make it so only troubled games will boot with it?

I think the multiplayer options is just a cosmetic thing for the menu, retro arch is on a per game i think you add a keyword to the end of a game before installing it so it knows to know using retro arch instead

Might have to fiddle around with the 2 player thing then see what happens. Yeah i just saw on the video where the command line is, guess i enter some command line stuff like i used to do with a few games when i wanted a wide screen hack on PC
You can individually invoke retroarch by using the --retroarch on the command line. See here:

https://github.com/ClusterM/retroarch-clover/releases

However, I tried this on two games that didn't work: The Lion King and Timon and Pumba, and neither work for me.
I see, thanks does it boot up differently when you bootup a game with Retroarch? And do you have to install retroarch straight away or can you install it later? Like do you need to go back to default flash kernel then remake a custom flash kernel that has it?

You can install retroarch any time, and uninstall it any time. There's no difference in the user interface when booting up. If it's any slower, I didn't notice it. I don't know all the finer details, but from the looks of the status messages, it seems that any time you install or remove a module such as retroarch, Hakchi will rebuild the kernel to include/exclude the module, then flash it. I was successful in running some GBA games as well using the gba module.

I had a similar issue, make sure you have a space before --retroarch so it would be like "previouscommandhere *space* --retroarch

Failing that another issue is rom format type, I had a alienstorm rom that just kept booting me back out to the menu, seems retroarch cant use .bin formats but it works fine with .md and .gen so check its a format that can be used in the 1st place.

So say i flashed my SNES already (i haven't but in a hypothetical scenario), I'd plug it into my PC which should recognise straight away from installing a custom kernel earlier, go install modules, check retroarch box and click ok. Would i then have to flash custom kernel again or would it work like games where i jut have to click the synchronize button? Surprised it wouldn't how a different boot screen as you boot the game to show you were using something different to boot. Retroarch uses a version of SNES9X as one of its cores right?

you just add games from there with the sync button, you never have to mess with the kernal again, other than maybe uninstalling and reflashing if a newer hakchi version says to.

you just drag the retroarch zip into hakchi choose your cores, you have to resync every game everytime though, retroarch doesnt replace anything, its more like just telling a game to load another emulator when you click run, it doesnt replace anything exactly

Huh... so you can't just remove the SNES once you plug it in if you change your mind about making any changes? You have to press the sync button before you remove? Tired will ask more tomorrow :)

Sorry for being AFK so long been a bit busy dealing with life. Just had another question is the custom kernel normally a different side if you chose to dump it? I only say because I think I dumped my original kernel twice and I can't tell if one is custom or not. One is in the dump folder and in another I named dump folder (first one) they are the same sign exactly but the time stamp is different by about an hour.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update

Speaking of PLaystation. I see Evilnat put out a beta for PS3 CFW 4.91.2 on the 22nd.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Don't really see the point in updating it tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right, I thought about updating my PS3 CFW to 4.91, but why really, everything plays fine now. I guess for people that have already updated past 4.9 it would be helpful.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I play most games that are on both PS3/360 strickly on the 360, but PS3 exclusives are really only games I play on the PS3 (You know me, I'm more of a Xbox junkie)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
