Hey hey!

Have a gateway with enunand 11.1 I think.

I don't go online at all. Any games out yet that absolutely require an 11.3 or 11.4 FW to run? Am I good running the new metroid and newer games with enumand at 11.1?

Thanks all!!

Try Metroid and tell us what happens. I don't know if it requires 11.3 or higher (it probably does). And no, there's no Gateway news. Still stuck on 11.2.
Metroid requires native firm 2.52 which corresponds to firmware 11.2. OP will have to update to at least that.

edit: 3 cat posts in a row. a "cat trick" ;p

Gotcha.

Whats the best way to get my emunand to 11.2

And yes I want to keep with Gateway for now. I dont feel like sitting there for 10 hours letting CIA's install when I can just boot the .3ds files directly.

Thanks for any help in getting my emunand to 11.2 folks, its really appreciated!

***Side note. Best way to convert a CIA to a .3ds? Thanks guys!!

  1. Download MetroidYoshi's Wooly World.
  2. Boot Gateway mode with the card not inserted, so the menu comes up.
  3. Scroll over to the boot Gateway item
  4. Hold Up on the D-pad and select that item
  5. Try to run Metroid. It will update the system
  6. Play and enjoy

Thank Qcat! Just a tad confused. For item 2, which card not inserted? Does metroid have 11.2 on it?

Thanks!

The Gateway card.
Actually now that I think about it, use Yoshi's Wooly World instead. I don't know what update is on Metroid, but Yoshi definitely has 11.2.
Ok sorry. Ive been out of the scene for a tad. Thanks for the patience Qcat, I appreciate it.

So boot normal fresh 3ds.
Launch the gateway through 3ds profile but without the gateway card? It will boot the gateway launcher because launcher.dat is on the sd card so that makes sense. Then use a retail Yoshi wolly world cart? and boot it through the gateway menu? That will update the enumand? No way to do with a 3ds file?

Again sorry if I am not understanding you correctly and thank you for the help, you rock!

Did you mean: 1 hour

but seriously, after a semi-quick setup, you'll be able to always be on the latest firmware and use freeShop, which is much more convenient than scavenging the internet for cart dumps.

Ok so insert the Gateway cartridge once the menu loads. Hold Up on the D-pad when selecting the boot Gateway mode option. This turns off update blocking (otherwise Yoshi won't update you). And you can use a Yoshi's Wooly World rom.

Do not do this until further confirmation, unless you have a way to dump/restore your EmuNAND, which I assume you don't, since you only use Gateway. I believe this method bricks your EmuNAND with any update above 7.0.0. I remember doing it in SysNAND for 4.2.0 to 4.5.0, and on EmuNAND for some other version, but I think that the keys changing in 7.0.0 broke this for some reason. If someone confirms I'm wrong, then there's one thing I'm sure of: UPDATE ONLY WITH A ROM FROM YOUR REGION

Smileyhead - Yeah thinking Gateway is dead and I should just do that haha. So with that method, the CIA's install to the SD card?

Thanks cat! - Makes sense!! Thanks a ton! (also when in emunand, updating from a cart rom will only update emunand and not sysnand right?

Thanks!!!

Oh snap... so updating emunand through a cart or ROM will brick emunand??

Yeah, you're wrong except for the region bit.

They are updating emunand, not sysnand.
Def NOT updating sysnand. I have like the original sysand from like when the thing first came out.

So as long as the wolly world is of same region (in my case USA) then an enumand update from the cart .3ds rom through gateway is safe? I have once done it online up until this point.

Thanks!

Yes that is what i am talking about. The latest firmware blocks gateway i think.
They are updating to 11.2 not 11.5. Sometimes it's good to actually read the thread you are replying to.

It will be fine. If you are worried just backup your emunand first in the gateway menu. If it bricks you can easily restore it since you are not touching your sysnand and entry point.
