ez flash iii. no writer tool with it.. anyway to write roms to it or no? should i give up on this thing?
I am assuming by no "writer tool" you mean you are missing the linker (that box next to the cart) and not the software required to write to it.
If that is the case, I'd follow Fast6191's advice and see if you can't find a buyer who has a linker already. I think finding a solution to replacing the linker w/ other kit or finding a linker for sale is going to be one tough row to hoe. Hell, I'm shocked you managed to pick up an EZ3 at all... It's a great GBA flash cart (one of the best ever made), most people wouldn't part w/ one (does it work, BTW?).
If it's the software you are missing, it can still be downloaded from the EZFlash site [
CLICKY]. The easiest and most stable way, IMO, to get EZ3 Manager working on a modern machine is w/ a VM running Windows XP; I use Oracle's VM Virtual Box. Works fine.
The Supercard SD is not a fun cart to work w/, IMO. I haven't played w/ one in MANY years, but
this thread discusses the joys of saving on the Supercard GBA products and it's exactly why I didn't like the cart much. Someone correct me if things changed.
Also what's the difference between the EXSEK Ez Flash IV and the other blue sticker label EZ Flash IV??
I had never heard of that before now, but as far as I can tell it is just a reseller putting his own label/branding on the box and cart and charging you a high mark up for it. On Amazon that "version" is in fact sold by a seller named
EXSEK and in the Q&A he tells a buyer they must use EZClient to patch their games.
Just find a "blue label" EZ4. You can get one for ~$30 and it's the best, easily obtainable (i.e. still manufactured and supported) GBA flash cart right now that isn't
KRIKzz's Everdrive-GBA X5... But the GBA Everdrive is $100 and AFAIK only has an RTC as advantage over the EZ4.
Edit:
I honestly just really wanted something to load RTC games (pokemon) on and the rest of my collection as well. Which can all fit on a 2gb sd card. I just didn't want to spend $100 or more on this. I wanted to do it on my real gba as well and not emulate bc I don't like to emulate games on other devices.
The EZ4 does not have an RTC. :-( It also sound like Everdrive's are out of your price range. Either keep hunting for and old GBA flash cart w/ RTC or the linker for the EZ3; patch the RTC functionality of your Pokemon ROM's (for the ones that have patches that is) or buy an Everdrive. :-/
