I didn't want to miss out on upcoming games, so yes, I updated to the latest to play Sonic Mania. I may end up regretting it, but I don't want to be stuck with a few games for several months while others enjoy the newer ones. I foresee a PS3 3.55 like situation with this.

Switch units are getting fairly easy to find now. There isn't any in stores near me, but there are several around Vegas that do have both color variants.

i was the one who noted that splatoon 2 came with 2.3.0, i had to update to find out as i didnt know any other tricks to find out what it was on. However i knew that 3.0.0 came out at the end of July while splatoon came in the middle of july so i was not afraid to update it.

I dont think there is an exploit for 1.0.0 either and therefor you must update between 1.0.0-3.0.0
The next game up is Mario Rabbids Kingdom and im sure itll come loaded with 3.0.0
(but dont take my word for the last two sentences)

It's all timing. I got mine a couple of months ago. In Japan. Can't find one on the shelf in a NEX or PX though! Thank goodness for finally leaving the region locks out of it...

This is like gateway, they were blocked with 5.0 and it was before the product's release.... Later I ended up buying a second 3ds on 4.1, heh.
But look where we are now, any version of the 3ds can be hacked, I guess sooner or later the switch will be blown open.

where do you guys usually check for hax news ?
i check on wololo quite often and i sadly did not see anything (on 17th august) there stating not to update switch fw.

and there is still nothing about this there, do i have to follow some specific people on twitter? e.g smea and SciresM ?
if i saw anything hinting at not updating at wololo i would not have updated ! ;-;

Personally i just follow here to be sure source are fine.
When there update on console etc i do not update for a month till i am sure that fine.
and when i am unsure i set dns apparently ( I say apparently because i do not remind setting dns on both wii u and switch but they had it set up. Oo)

I follow people like Smea and SciresM, ShinyQuagsire has some good posts too. I check wololo almost daily, and that site is mostly geared towards Sony, though there is some nintendo news, but it's usually not the first site to have it.

yeah 6 years after the release of the 3ds it was blown wide open

tbh it's more like 4 years in the public scene, not 8
Gateway was the starting point, back in 2013
And since then people have reverse-engineered their code, dug deeper in the 3DS, and now we have boot9strap
