How to build the Game Update
============================

Note: Make sure Luma3ds is updated to the latest version.

1) Start GodMode9 (on Luma3DS/B9S - hold START while booting your 3DS and choose GodMode9)

2) Get a decrypted CIA from your Game Card:
[C:] GAMECART > 000400000014AD00_v00.3ds > NCSD image options... > Build CIA from file

3) Get the Dual Destinies font: (you can skip this if you've previously dumped the font archive for our Demo release)
[A:] SYSNAND SD > title >

EUR Full: 00040000 > 000F1E00
EUR Demo: 00040002 > 000F1E01
USA Full: 00040000 > 000F1400
USA Demo: 00040002 > 000F1401

> content > 00000000.app > NCCH image options... > Mount image to drive > romfs > archive > UI_cmn_eng.arc > Copy to 0:/gm9/out

Note: sd:/gm9/out/ may be sd:/gm9out/ for earlier versions of GodMode9

4) Extract the archive with the patcher and the IRIS file to a folder on your computer

5) Transfer the following files from your SDCard to the folder you extracted the patcher and the IRIS file to:
* sd:/gm9/out/000400000014AD00_v00.cia
* sd:/gm9/out/UI_cmn_eng.arc
Note: sd:/gm9/out/ may be sd:/gm9out/ for earlier versions of GodMode9

6) Rename UI_cmn_eng.arc dd_font.bin

7) Double-click PATCH_DGS.bat (maybe it's only displayed as PATCH_DGS on your computer) to generate DGS_Episode1_Update.cia

8) Transfer DGS_Episode1_Update.cia to your SDCard and install it with FBI

9) Run The Great Ace Attorney from your Game Card - sorry, the Banner can not be translated via Game Update, but the e-Manual is in English :)

Nice. Going to wait for the full game but I'm very glad to see the project is making good progress.

Hopefully people are still careful with spoilers.

I made an account just to post this, I have to say I was at least a little disappointed to find that I can't use this with my legally purchased eShop copy. Me and a bunch of my friends all had digital copies waiting for this translation, and now it seems we're screwed. Are you saying I now have to purchase the game a second time (and wait weeks for shipping) just for the sake of shutting out pirates? That seems like kind of a selfish decision to me, especially as someone who's currently on hard financial times.

I'm not angry at the team for this, in fact I'm grateful that they took the time and work to translate this game for us, but I'm really disappointed that it seems like they're actually, legitimately willing to screw people like me over (of whom there is a decent amount of) just so they can prevent a few pirates. There's even some salt in the wound with that insincere "Sorry for the inconvenience!" at the end of the FAQ that seemingly just dismisses us digital buyers. It really seems like they don't care at all. Again, I'm not angry about this, (although some of my other digital buyer friends are), just disappointed and confused over such a weird decision.

Thank you very much for this! So, correct me if I'm wrong, you guys choose to released this game episodically, right? Do you guys have a concrete schedule for releasing the cases, every quarterly or semi-annually for example.

Anyway, this is really great! I hope you guys won't stop with just this game and continue to translated the 2nd game, too. Wish you all good luck!

I asked a friend in Japan to buy me a copy of DGS just for this :) (it's only 22 bucks at Book-Off, apparently)

Now I just need a 3DS.

Don't work here
I don't know why... After a long wait i got this : "couldn't patched RomFS dir... Error unpacking CIA..."
Nice typo I left in there, how embarrassing :ph34r:

Anyways - the error of ctrtool (IRIS uses it to unpack) suggests it can't write to the folder - it's either a permission problem or your hard disk may be full? The process will (temporarily) use about 3 GiB of space during the patching...

Hi, my version of Windows is not compatible with the patch. Do I need to run a 64bits computer ?
Yes, sorry. The 64-bit version of makerom was the only one that set the CIA version correctly (or you would get update nag screens). So I had to use that.

Hope you have access to a 64-bit Windows machine...

With this release we finally solved some long-standing issues. There still are some small known bugs (one of the Back buttons is slightly off, that sort of minor thing). We actually did a lot of polishing on Episode 1 and we want to polish Episode 2 to the same level.

Hopefully it won't be too far off - we just took the biggest hurdle and now we just have to keep running until we're finished ;)

    One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

    It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
