If he had have installed CFW while it was on a lower version he would be fine now. But since he updated the only way is with a hardmod or second console with CFW. See https://3ds.guide

We dont have an other console with Custom firmware, is it easy to do a hardmod an do you have a link to a guide how to do it ? Please
The link is the same: https://3ds.guide. Read EVERYTHING, scroll down to select the model of your 3DS, then select hardmod from the table that lists the different stock FW.
It's quite tricky doing the hardmod since it requires some soldering skills. If you're not sure of what you're doing, be warned you may seriously risk breaking your 3DS to the point it will be unrecoverable and given the way eShop purchases and saves work, you'll lose EVERYTHING: your Miis, your Nintendo Network ID, your purchased games (you'll have to re-buy them on a new console), your saves.

Installed titles are encrypted per console, so no (unless you dumped the moveable.sed before it bricked).

I don't think that will work. You should ask the store if you would be allowed to do a system transfer. And anyway if you don't, you won't be able to hack the N2DSXL.

Hey I found my movable .sed file I dumped before my console bricked how do I go about in transferring it to my n3dsxl?

Wasn’t it a n2DSXL you were going to buy?
Anyway, this thread should get you started. Be warned you’ll have to hex edit the movable.sed on the target console. And I think you need a hacked target console, since you have to dump it’s movable.sed and if it actually is a n2DSXL, you wan only hack it with system transfer from an already hacked 3DS, because it will be on OFW 11.4 or 11.5.

:glare:
I was referring to alternative methods of running Homebrew launcher as in this section of the guide https://3ds.guide/homebrew-launcher-(alternatives).html, not an alternative method to the whole procedure of installing boot9strap...

Oh okay,'cool - so I guess a system transfer from another CFW system is my only option, and buy a game from the store. Hmmm.

I think I'll pass on this one and just sell it as is in that case.

I have three other 'bricked' 3DS units I need to work out what to do with! Haha

Thanks anyway.
