From what i heard they crammed like up to 50 characters on screen...thats just way too much for the DS if you ask me. Especially for something thats similar to a RTS. Can't wait for LA and RF...

LOL I never read reviews even though I get Nintendo Power....after hearing it was like Lost Magic I picked up my copy on NP and read what the game is about...I'm gonna ignore the 6.5 score and give it a try. I gave up on the mana series a long time ago...but I loved lost magic

well, if it indeed has horrid path finding and severe slowdowns then the score suits it well, good path finding is everything in a RTS.

I just can't understand why wont ishii do a proper mana game... secret of mana is so awesome, I'm playing a gazillionth time through it again in snemulds heh.

IGN gave it an 8 and 1up gave it 7.5..
And.. I read the Gamespot review and it seems to me that ghey gave it a bad note just because of the bad pathfinding..

Well, after playing the Warcraft series (I, II and III) for the last 10-15 years, I'd have to say that pathing is pretty much everything in an RTS. If you have to constantly stop to redirect units because they can't find their way around a tree or other environmental object, then that game is pretty much worthless in my eyes, as was Lostmagic (sorry to all you fans of that game).

Pathfinding in Warcraft 3 is excellent. But the pathing in Warhammer 40,000 is atrocious, but it still makes for a good game.

This game would deserve 8, but the path finding is honestly really bad, they dont have free movement at all, just try watching your army walk in square paths, that already makes movement much more restricted and then if 2 blocks a blocked, then the unit chooses to walk all the way around the two blocks and once the course is decided it wont change unless you tell it to. Also on average you'll get two monsters attacking an enemy at most, while the others finally find their way to the other two sides of the enemy it'll be dead already lol, if they made them walk in square paths they might as well have made it turn based, other than that the games really good i think, but the path finding clearly out weighs the positives

After playing Heroes of Mana up to Chapter 5, I would give it a 3/10 and will never play it again. I think the current reviews have been very generous.

EDIT: I was too generous, I give this game a 2/10 instead.

I'm about half way thru the game and I'm about to quit it. Basically, the game has potential but the DS just does not have the hardware to run a game like this. Map scrolling is a nightmare (it really laggs // 10 FPS)... Controlling units is just as bad (the grid they've created to move units is terrible, every box seems to be too big thus the AI struggles to move units to the place where you select them to go). 25 men on the field is crap and the maps are small. Moreover, the first time you play a mission you are most likely to fail and get a bad rating thus you end up turning off your ds ... waiting forever for the cut scene which u've seen before to end and then play the map again. This could have easily been changed by allowing the user to repeat the mission (as it does for the bonus maps).

I just hope that revenant wings does not suffer w/ this issue. I really have high hopes for that game.

My score: 4/10

I've tried the game for a bit and it's pretty cool. The graphics were better than I had expected from a DS game. (Well, I seem to not have a knack for graphics so I'm probably easily satisfied.)

Makes pretty good use of the touch screen and the plot for someone who is new to the Mana series seems pretty cool. I do agree that it's a little hard to control the game. Well, it's hard to pan around the map. They should probably have allowed us to use the D-pad to do the panning instead of using the "switch screen" button to do so. Guess I'll continue with the game for now. It seems rather new to me.

A second mana franchise game I turned down. Everything was good from SNES to PS, failed on PS2 once, and the second time it's on DS. Children of Mana was far more enjoyable IMO.

Gamerankings > All Review Sites

Nothing shows how good a game is until you take every review and then average them out.

Wahlah that removes personal bias mostly and works quite well.

Same strategy at Rotten Tomatoes 180+ movie reviewers all averaged together to depict how good movie xyz is.

But yeah I'm not really impressed with IGN or Gamespot by themselves.

At first I thought the gamespot review was a bit harsh, but I agree 100% with the review now.

I played this game for a couple of levels, and I don't like it. :/ Everything is just so boring. Deleted.

@monopoman: Gamerankings really is fantastic.

The best way to use Gamerankings though, is to click All Reviews and look at the pie chart (which sorts in 10% increments). Then average it yourself. It's more consistent because it's bloody next to impossible to determine what a 85% game is compared to an 84% game next year. A 10% margin is far more reliable and easier to gauge how much you'll enjoy the game.
