What about from inside the 3ds folder I can see a bunch of titles with long numbers ex0008700008 inside these are Data and Save
Those are precisely the encrypted files we were talking about. They can be read only by the console that created them. If you take them and put in another console, they won’t be recognized. The key must be transferred and you do that either by doing a system transfer or modifying the other console moveable.sed by injecting part of the moveable.sed file from the o3DS. Unfortunately you can’t extract the latter, since the console is bricked, nor do the transfer, for the same reason.
Okay thanks one more question I have at the end of the guide after section 1 it tells me to update can I do this after I do section 3 and 4 of the guide? If not can i make a nand backup before I update to 11.5 with luma?
Since hbkmog ‘s Reddit thread was discontinued after december 2016, how can I desume the firmare in a brand new 3DS from its serial number?
I’ve seen a Pearl White n3DSXL with s/n QEF1077xxxx, I think it may be 11.2 or 11.3, but how could I be sure? Is there some updates listing somewhere?

I’m not sure, but bad things may happen to those that don’t strictly follow each step of the guide. I don’t know if the System Update is required at that point for specific reasons.
I got a sudden intrest in hacking my new 3ds xl yesterday and already got homebrew working with ninjahax. I am on version 11.5.0-38U and for some resaon I am having a lot of trouble installing luma. The guide I was following said I needed a 3ds that already has a cfw of some kind on it, so is there any other way I can get boot9strap oon my 3ds. I didn't look through this thread so i'm sorry if this is a repeated question
If you have FW 11.4 or 11.5 you either hardmod it or have another 3DS with already CFW installed, as you say. Be warned that using another CFW 3DS would require to system transfer from it to your 3DS you want to CFW and it’s a hell of a hassle saving all your relevant data in order to restore it after the a transfer (and some data you cannot backup at all).
Outside of these two methods, you can only wait for ntrboothax to be released (we still don’t know when) and use a compatible DS card (we don’t know which ones either).
As of now, you can only run Homebrew with ninjhax if you don’t hardmod or system transfer from an already hacked 3DS; there’s no way you can install Luma from homebrew. The boot9strap install exploit was patched in 11.4.

Is there anyway to downgrade my 3ds? I don't want to hard mod my 3ds because i would probably break it.
I’m actually in the same situation as you are: my main console is a n3DSXL on FW 11.4; I had an old 3DS which I was able to CFW, but I’ve no intention of system transferring to my main, i’d lose too much data.
I was considering buying a new n3DSXL with firmware 11.3 or below, install CFW the easier way and then system transfer from my main and use the newly bought on from then on. Only problem is, they don’t quite give them out for free :/
I spent like three hours reading the guide and searching the internet only to realize that i can't do anything. I hope that other method comes out soon.
I’m hoping that too. It’s awful playing MHXX on a tiny o3DS screen when I have a n3DSXL next to me

You can use Homebrew, still.
