This is more of an question asking for opinions, rather than seeking help:
I've been around the hacking scenes for many years, but since the 3DS hacking scene began to grow, I've been skeptical if I should hack my 3DS or support emulation(like Citra).
My 3DS is on version 11.5.0-38E right now(latest update), and I'm also using the latest bleeding edge builds of Citra, testing games on them and reporting any new issues.
But personally, I'm starting to lose patience, and I can't afford games which I wanted to play for a long time because I'm unemployed.
So from this point at the hacking scene, what do you think would be better: Hacking the 3DS and installing CFW, or keep waiting for more major progress over the Citra emulator?
And yeah, I realized I could do both, but first I want to read your opinions.
I'd hack 3ds and use it until citra becomes better.

I followed 3ds.guide and got to the end of the first page of the guide
  1. Press (Start) to save and reboot
    • If you get an error, just continue the next page

However, when the 3DS rebooted it greeted me with:

An error has occured:
Failed to get the CTRNAND FIRM.
Press any button to shutdown

I decided to ignore as the guide said "If you get and error, just continue to the next page"

However, I got until the end of the first section of "Finalizing setup", and it says to:
  1. Power on your device
I still get the same CTRNAND FIRM error.
Any help?

I'm pretty sure you don't have to. When you hold start on boot, do you get to GodMode9?
Ah yes it does boot to godmode9
It asked me for essential files backup not found, so I said yes to it.
Now what can be done? Rebooting from godmode9 still results in the same error.
I would like to state that I have downgraded from 9.2 to 4.5 with gateway's downgrade method.
I read the 3ds.guide and it states that I may have to delete my NNID

Now what?
I've never heard of the error you're getting, but I think this would help: https://3ds.guide/9.2.0-ctrtransfer
I would maybe wait a bit if someone else has a better idea about how to solve your problem, but I'm pretty sure doing that will fix it.

Hi guys.
I’m a total noob here. I tried searching through the CFW Guide but something’s not totally clear to me.
I’ve run some searches in here too, but I either find posts from 2015 which are totally outdated now or addressing issues not quite like mine, so I’m sorry if this has already come out before and ask if you kindly could point me in the right direction to find a thorough explanation.

This is my issue: I have an o3DS with b9s. I followed the guide, did all the steps, installed Luma3DS, updated to 8.1 and now it’s running on SysNAND with System Update 11.5.0-38E. Everything works fine, but the thing is: that’s not my main 3DS.
All my games, my saves, my Miis, badges, themes and NNID are on a new 3DS XL which runs stock 11.4.0-37E firmware.

Unfortunately I came too late to the CFW scene; had I been here before April update to 11.4, I could have just hacked directly my n3DS XL from 11.3; I also had an old 3DS still on 9.2, though, which I was able to hack quite easily following the guide, as I said.

My point is: I understand the only way (other than waiting for NTRboothax) to hack my n3DSXL now is through DSIWarehax, which requires a system transfer from my already hacked o3DS, in order to have a modified save file for one of the supported DSiWare games on the n3DSXL.
What I don’t really get completely is how do I prevent my data (save files, Miis, Themes, badges, NNID) from being totally wiped out from the target n3DSXL by said system transfer; or, more correctly, I do I restore them after the transfer.

1) The saves are encrypted with a key tied to the n3DSXL. If I save the on my PC and then system transfer, will the key be changed so that moving back the save/extra data from the PC backup would do nothing? How could I decrypt them first If I can’t run JKFM on the stock FW n3DSXL?

2) The NNID from the o3DS will be transferred to the n3DSXL; how do I restore my former (main) NNID on the n3DSXL so that I can download all my stuff again (ambassador program games and eShop bought 3DS games)?

I know I can restore my o3DS to what it was before the system transfer just by backing up and restoring the NAND, but I’m more interested in restoring all the stuff on the target n3DSXL after the system transfer, without losing current data and NNID but with CFW installed in SysNAND.

Thank you to everyone who could clear all this stuff out.
