Will you guys post a walkthrough or is there somewhere else I can get one when it comes out
We've already told you "Be patient" people are working hard on doing this , it's not you working on it so please do not rush them.
Also these people work on many other translations so just because you can't wait doesn't mean they should just drop n' focus on this.

Finals are done, so it's update time!

We've been working on dialogue quite a bit--most of the translation has been accomplished, and we're now working on localizing it so that it makes sense as a Dragon Quest game.

We don't have an estimated completion date yet, but now that school is over, we'll be able to spend a lot more time working on it!

I see Rocket, Hooly, and Bo in those shots; is the plot in any way related to the DS game, or do all of the RSA games use those characters?

Completely different game, you sail a ship, like on the old dragon warrior games, Its awesome if you liked the first game, cant wait to know what the fuck is going on in the game though!

All games in the series use these characters. The story itself has some connections but overall there's not much continuation from one game to the next.

Is it possible to patch it without Hans? I have Luma, I'm sure it's possible but I don't know how.

Not sure how relevant this is, but I got the Terry's Wonderland 3D fan translation set up today using just the original cartridge Luma LayeredFS support (not HANS or a patched CIA). It works like a total charm. I'm assuming you'll be able to do just the same with this patch.

What do you mean by localisation if I may ask? I really hope your not going to the effort of fan translating a Dragon Quest game and then still subjecting it to the cancerous Alpha Plus style localisation.

We're adjusting the literal translation of the text to something that fits the last game better, also making corrections along the way. Whether you think that's 'cancerous' is just a matter of opinion. Besides, it's not the only work we're doing - there is still a good amount of hacking required to show the battle text, text on gui labels, location names, etc.

What im refering to is the Alpha Plus style used in modern Dragon Quest translations where they put accented text where there was none in the first place. Making games like DQIV DS all but unplayable.

I'm glad you're putting in the effort to localize, it'll make playing much more enjoyable. Nothin beats those classic slime puns!

Don't listen to CommissarBear, the modern localisations of Dragon Quest are much better than the boring old ones

Beggs can't be choosers. You could use the NES DW I style of translation for all I care. I'll just be glad to play it in English since Nintendo and Squeenix decided not to localize it.

Considering this clearly goes way beyond simply cleaning up general grammatical awkwardness and rewording sentence flow and keeping the terminology consistent between games (but is there even anything in common besides monster names?), the way the translation team looks up to Alfa Plus, I can only hope this "localization" is reasonable and respectful to the original material. Because whenever Alfa Plus is involved, it's everything but that.

Their style actually made me play Dragon Quest IV in French (still translated from Japanese but amazingly still enjoyable, extra-accurate and brimming with flavor), and later using a patch injecting the NES translation (still flavored and very editorialized, but bearable and concise). To this day I never touched the (English exclusive) party chat besides testing a file swap I did for it to restore it in the DS version.

Rocket Slime 2 was Alexander O' Smith though, and names aside, even the pun-tastic bits of dialogue weren't made up. The bits where he did go overboard were the repetitive bestiary descriptions, which is fine since there's no loss of information considering how bare-bones the original sentences were, but I couldn't imagine subjecting a whole game to that.

In case these hopes are too much to have in this particular instance, I would sooner go with the Japanese version (or rather, carry on with it, since I can read the language) than yet another Alfa Plus-style rewrite - and I guess rewrite is a much better descriptive for their work than localization (I can read the mysterious culturally foreign Mori Mori 3 DQ Japanese script sans Alfa Plus-isms without bursting in flames from the sheer cultural shock, thank you very much). But I guess at this point everyone made up their own mind.

about the DQ4 DS translation, as someone with english as a second language it seemed to me like a pretty bad translation for a long time
even now idk if putting those thick accents right at the beginning was a good idea...
if you are not familiar with accents and a few slangs in english you won't understand a lot of the dialogue, especially in Ryan's chapter.

I remember playing it when it came out and dropping it after a while because I didn't know what to do and I thought the text was scrambled as some kind of AP protection.
I was already fluent in english at the time, however since I wasn't familiar with accents I couldn't understand the NPCs at all

that kind of thing works better with voice acting, in DQH it works really well because if you can't understand it written you can make out what word it is phonetically.
it improved a lot the dialogue there, especially with kyril and alena.
