To help visualize the current banwave, I made a Google Map for people to add markers for their banned 3DSes. It's my first time making something like this, so here's hoping a got it right. And if this is in the wrong forum, let me know.

The Great 3DS Banwave of 2017

Hop on the banwagon!

Only mark this map once for each confirmed banned 3DS you own. And don't mark your actual location. Only use an approximation.

I'm just looking for the scope and progress of the ban.

I doubt Nintendo is rolling out the bans based on Geography. If they are staggering bans, they are probably not doing it based on geography. As far as scope goes, all you would be measuring would be how many people filled out your map. You wouldn't really be able to tie that to time very well. What if someone fills out your map 5 days after the ban? If you want temporal information, you should be collecting the time they first noticed the ban. It would also be good to collect information like the time since they last used the 3DS, they last played a pirated game online, etc. You need a ton more questions to get any decent conclusions out. Even then, you'd still have to statistically prove that the people taking your poll are a valid sample of the whole population of banned people. To figure out anything truly interesting, you would need a lot of samples, with more questions, and some fancy statistical methods. Considering how few samples you already have, you are unlikely to get enough to be statistically meaningful. Did you post your request on Reddit? What about other languages? A very large proportion of hacked consoles are done by people who don't know English very well. Piracy rates are much higher in places like South America and China. I don't know how much piracy is in Japan, but there are a lot of 3DSs out there. You wouldn't want to exclude those.

I don't mean to discourage you though, only to make you better.
