Decided to make my own amiibo cards. I am not an android person and I am scouring pay as you go options with nfc capabilities. I can buy used, of course, but I figured there had to be a sub $50 cheapie. Has anyone found one?

Sorry if this isn't in the right section.

Finding a Pay as you go phone with NFC has been difficult for me. Monday I picked up a phone Best Buy said had NFC but turned out not to. I did more research online and came to the conclusion that the Samsung Galaxy J3 (6) has NFC. There is a Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge which appears to not have NFC from what I have read. I do not know for sure but I think the ones being labeled as Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) is the same as the (6) as specs I can find and everything else about it is the same.

It is not in the price range you ask for but is close at $70.

I bought mine at Best Buy because I got them to price match then I had some other discounts and credits so I got it for about $58. They did not have it in the store but I will have it Thursday to know for sure if it has NFC or not. If not it is another phone to be returned.

At that price they might as well buy a N2 Elite with the USB reader.

Appreciate the input, folks. I am not set buying new, just figured I would if I could. There is a $30 USB writer I could buy, but would rather just get an android since there is an app written for that. I already have a powersaves, but I wanted to make some cards and have a riend visiting too that wants a set.

Well turns out the Samsung Galaxy J3 (6) / (2016) does not have NFC. Android phones are some of the biggest scams ever. Everything online points to this phone having NFC and Samsung own website even gives instructions for enabling and disabling it yet it does not have it. Now this is phone #2 being returned because of incompetent employees even saying it has NFC before I make the purchase.

I managed to pick up a Nexus 7 tablet with a cracked but working screen for £10 on eBay. Were a few cheap nexus s phones as well last time I looked, would say eBay best bet if you are on a budget.

I picked up a phone for like £60 and it was pretty good. Think it was the Vodafone Smart Prime 6, though you probably wouldn't be able to get it in America since I don't think you have Vodafone...
The phone is available in the rest of the world as the alcatel prime 6. Vodafone just rebadge alcatel phones in the UK to Vodafones own brand. The phones are made by acetels owners TCL in China.

From what I read, a lot of budget phones have the nfc capabilities within the removable battery. I just ordered one used online for $25 and had the seller expressly check the battery for me. I agree with you though, it's confusing and rather annoying to have to filter through this way. I wouldn';t blame an employee though, who is likely making $10 an hour and has no way of really knowing everything about every model they sell. They likely looked it up with the same information you have online.

Also the same phone can have different specs and features around the world take for instance the Samsung galaxy note 4 in different parts of the world it has a totally different processor in some countries it is powered by a 2.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 chipset with Adreno 420 GPS and in others it is powered by Samsung’s ARMv8-A Exynos 7 Octa SoC with two clusters of four cores; four Cortex-A57 cores at 1.9 GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.3 GHz. So shop workers may simply Google the phone and be looking at the specs for the same phone but not the one sold in the country they are in ect.

yep, it's a bit annoying trying to make sense of it all. I actually did a couple hours of searching and honesty conclusion was I couldn't buy anything NEW for under $70. That's not a bad price for a phone, mind you, but when all I need/want is an nfc reader, well...

Check with friends and family members to see if anyone has one that is "broken " tell them you want to see if you can fix it to learn. Someone might give you one

This kind of thing is why I keep looking for a homebrew app for either 3DS or Wii U to bypass the need for a phone to do NTAG215 writing with.
