Hey all, new to the scene with Wii U hacking and I have a few questions.

I think I get how to load the Homebrew channel, but not redNAND or loading from USB. I recall that I needed a 64GB SD card, so I do have that ready to go.

I just read the entire first page of the guide and it doesn't mention anything about how to create and automatically load redNAND? Is that a seperate thread/guide? I saw it explained what redNAND was, but not any word on how to do it. I'd like to set that up similar to how I have it setup on my 3DS so that it loads automatically and so it leaves the regular NAND alone. Is that possible?

I also didn't see anything on how to load from USB instead of SD? Is that a separate thread/guide? I'd also like to use the same hard drive I already have hooked up that I use for all my regular vWii ISO's and emulators if at all possible.

Edit: Maybe this thread answers my questions? Sorry it was a bit confusing because the title said this is the definitive guide but it sounds like it's actually just the starting point?
Hey all, I posted this about a month ago and didn't hear back. I am still confused and most of the guides seem to contradict easy other somewhat. Where is the recommended #1 guide to do this located?

You're asking a question that's similar to "What DNA should I look for in a spouse?". You're going to get different answers. You said you want redNAND, and you said you want it to load automatically, and you want to leave sysNAND alone. You also mentioned USB loading, which is what most people do.

If you want redNAND, read about Mocha. (But please have a reason for using it before you do. If you're just going to run games and DLC, you don't need it.)

For loading automatically, there's CBHC (CBHC faq), but that doesn't leave your sysNAND alone (it's not like a real CFW that gets control before the system does its normal startup.)

There's a link to USB loading in the OP (Wii U USB Loading) If you stick to retail games that were available on disc, once you load the games, you don't have to run any kind of hack. (unless you use unpurchased DLC)

No, you can't use the same drive while also expecting things to run exactly as they were intended. If you must use the same drive, and you're willing to do extra work and put up with limitations, look into Mocha FAT32 development version.

As you could see, the OP doesn't come by gbatemp very often lately, and the OP's last post in the thread looks like it was in October. You should use those kinds of clues to help you know if you should be following outdated advice. There's a lot of helpful information in this thread, but the wiiu scene has gotten a little large to try to cover it all in one thread.

Disc2App might be what you're looking for. What are you looking to do? You have the physical disc, right?
disc2app dumps without them. Atleast in my experience.
Ninja'd :ninja:
I'll look into that, I do have the disc and I'm going to look at some of the differences in the files between updates of a game.

Edit:
How do I get the files out of the app files?

Okay so I'm looking for the next step in hacking my Wii U. I have followed all the steps up to installing Mocha, but I'm not quite sure of what steps to take next. Mainly I want to be able to install games to the Wii U from ISOs, and I'm not 100% clear on how to install homebrew apps.

I think you mean installing files from WUDs, the Wii U equivalent of ISOs.
Firstly, you would need to dump the WUD from your console. A tool called wudump exists that allows you to so this.
To install a WUD file on your console, you will first need to convert it into an installable format using a tool on your PC called wud2app (or something like that).
If you don't have a PC, you can perform the above two steps in one step using disc2app.
You would then send these extracted files through a program called WUPInstaller Y-Mod (or WUPInstaller GX2) to install them on your console.

Installing games from WUDs usually would not require the use of a CFW, as Wii U consoles treat disc images as publicly signed titles (like game updates).

Is there any way to get this working without internet? My Wii U refuses to connect to the internet. I've tried everything possible, even disabling the security on my network to see if that would help. It used to work just fine and I know it actually can still connect because it can still download things in standby mode. It's just impossible to get it to work in normal mode.

You're using up-to-date DNS? [TitleDNS]
Also disable Standby mode unless you want to be smacked with random system update. [Knowing Nintendo, they can release anything at any time]

I assume I'm using an up-to-date DNS. Every other device on my network can auto-obtain its DNS just fine and in an attempt to get it work on the Wii U, I tried using Google's DNS servers.

Use TitleDNS not Google's DNS.

This happens every time I turn it on and try to connect to the internet. I tried restarting it a gain and nothing happened. I know the password works because the Wii U can connect to the internet in standby mode.

Standby mode only syncs Miiverse & eShop and if it doesn't find Wi-Fi, it will blink back to red.

It is red in standby mode, but it still downloads updates to games. I've even had it download games I purchased on my computer when it's in standby (with this same issue keeping it from connecting normally). I guess my Wii U is just "special." Is there something else I can try to fix the internet? Or a different way to hack the Wii U?
