Again: DGS is a spin-off and much more serious than the main series. NO established character appears, it's only (in some cases heavily) implied that some are ancestors of established characters. Yes, some names are still puns, but they're also references to Sherlock Holmes novels. They made it somehow work that names from the Holmes canon worked as puns, which we cannot hope to replicate without removing the Holmes references - that's why we opted to leave the names as-is and instead explain the puns in the release notes. They aren't even that good tbh.
Hmm... Guess there are not many alternatives. Am willing to suggest some, if you are interested (though you probably decided on that as well).

I wasn't talking about you when I said bullying. I was making the point that you're not the first one to try to convince us of his preferences, and some of those people went way too far.
Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding. Wish the best of luck for you!

I watch both threads, no need to double post ;)

Again: Episode 1 is finished (except for some technical issues) and so are big parts of Episode 2. Do you really expect us to make changes of that scale this late? And as I already said, we discussed it and made a decision a long time ago - can't you accept that?

I was joking. I apologized. I'll do it again if I need to. I meant no ill against you people. Sorry.
My apologies.

I also once heard someone suggest changing Iris Watson's name simply because we'd already had a character called Iris in the main series. Personally I don't see why we couldn't have two characters with the same name especially seeing as they lived in completely separate time periods.

I'll post this again, these two servers are good places to hang out and discuss Ace Attorney games.

You may be interested in joining either (or both) of these Discords:

Ace Attorney: -snip- (terrible)
Court Records: -snip- (defunct)

Some of us are hanging out there as well. Please make sure to read their rules about spoilers etc. when joining.

Just arrived at the same result, actually. Guess there really is no room for change, huh?
Would have liked if the developers were more thoughtful. Something the Roylette would be similar enough for some people to make the character connection AND still make a Russian joke (you know, Roylette, roulette, Russian roulette?).

Like I said, we did think this through and discussed it. We have good reasons to do what we do ;)

Just to know, What are those issues with ep.1? I wanna play it T.T
It's the user interface. The MT Framework (the engine DGS uses) has a file format that describes the UI (user interface). That format is quite complex and weird so we had to resort to patch values by trial and error, since none of us (and befriended hackers) was able to crack it. I succeeded in making the dialogue box look nicer and import the Dual Destinies font that way, but it was a lot of extremely frustrating and long-winded work in a hex editor.

To make a decent release, a lot more needs to be changed in the same manner: the Game Over screen, tutorial, menu, evidence etc, etc... Luckily, these issues were not that bad in the demo, though you can see a few flaws in it due to us not understanding the format at that time. We got some of it working, but it took bloody ages.

A few weeks ago a really talented reverse engineer was nice enough to look at the problem and to our amazement he cracked it like it was nothing in just a few days. There's still some unknown things about it, but with his work, things became so much easier (I had to invest dozens of hours into changing just the dialogue box, this could now be done in minutes). So that's what our coders/hackers are currently doing - finally getting the user interface right without shots in the dark using a hex editor... Still needs a little time, though.

In case you're wondering why this is necessary: DGS has a lot of instances in which text is vertical or where the effect used is made for two or four characters where we would need way more than that. Yes, the demo had a few of those, but we could somehow make it work there, since it wasn't that bad.

will the text remain vertical?

I struggle to find any rationale behind your "suggestions".
You clearly want to change most of the names, even the ones that were in English to begin with, even though this particular translation isn't taking place in Los Angeles. Supposedly "as every true fan of the Ace Attorney series" as you put it, because that's "how it was done".

Thing is, even the official localisations kept quite a bit of names untranslated (especially the "foreign" ones), and the ones that did get translated were in fact direct translations of the kanji in the Japanese name and not just for the heck of it or to make up new "cool" puns (though admittedly, it seems many people's idea of localisation is making up stuff in translations).
So no, "Gregory Wright" isn't what the Capcom translators would go with - the Gregory part has zero, zilch, nada relationship with the "Ryuunosuke" part, and it's riding on the coattails of another translated name that's actually inspired by the original name. Under the guise of "localisation", fan-fic writers are trying to impose their ridiculous made up stuff as "canon" names, regardless of the setting justifying these names at all, or even these names trying to be inspired by the original names. But then again I suspect a fanfictiony rewrite of the plot to "fit" the setting to these new names comes as part of the package?

With your suggestion to change Roylott's name, an established character in the canon of another long-established series of English books, you further proved that you actually want a fanfiction rather than something representing the original. It throws out of the window any possible claim you want to keep the meaning of the other original Japanese-y names in the translation like Capcom USA intended with the changes (a demand not even the most adamant weaboos voice, and even then, it's satisfied more often than not with external translation notes, even with Working Designs games who were THE go-to company for pointless translation changes).

I'd sympathise with wanting to have fanfictions... if not for you simply not seeming to take no for an answer, and trying to force YOUR interpretation on everyone waiting for a translation representing the original game, considering not everyone shares the same contempt for aspects of it as you do.

Feel free to learn Japanese and rewrite the names as you see fit. Or if this translation comes out, use the tools or your favorite hex editor to change the names and rewrite the plot from Japan to Chinatown, Los Angeles, USA, and every single occurrence of Gregory Wright facing racism as him simply being lacking at social skills and being accidentally rude at people he meets then having sudden unjustified outbursts of a persecution complex.

Some people were displeased with Tomato's Mother 3's fantranslation often hauled as one of the best done, so even though they didn't speak a lick of English, they could still edit that translation and change, cut, remove, rewrite whatever they disagreed with, and then released it as its separate patch. You can do that already with the English demo for Dai Gyakuten Saiban Ace Attorney The Origins

In the case of DGS I'm of the mind set that I know it's one of the most common aspects of the series but I don't need every single name to be a pun.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if the ui and wasn't complete or if the names were in Japanese. All I need is the story. Everything else is a cherry on top.

Also this game has a pretty good OST especially The Great Turnabout and OBJECTION 2015. Also subbed trailer for DGS 2 is out and has an Objection 2017 theme(2015 remix)!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

do you think it would be like playing investigations 2
I wish it could be patched like Investigations 2... Theoretically speaking, COULD DGS patch work in the same way as investigations?

There was a stream to celebrate Ace Attorney's 15th anniversary (again) today with Eshiro as well as Phoenix and Ryuunosuke's Japanese VA. They teased DGS2 quite a bit and a new trailer was released:

(subs by Bolt Storm of Court Records, make sure they're enabled)

Our friends over at Court Records have more infos about this: http://forums.court-records.net/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32548 (minor spoilers for DGS1-1 and DGS2-1)

Yes, I like Susato's Objection Theme :D

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you mean playing it in an emulator that's neither possible at this time, nor would we support it.

We do - it will be released once we feel it's ready. We want the best experience we can deliver, so fans can thoroughly enjoy the game like they should.
