Could someone help me ? I have two 4 player games on my NES Classic, but can only choose the first character. The games are the TMNT arcade game and The Simpsons arcade game. I have figured out how to set the number of players to four, but I can still only pick the first character.

Is there a way to pick any of the 4 characters ? In mame on my computer, I have it set so that I use 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the number keys to pick one of the four characters. But I don't see any way of doing this in the NES Classic.

On another issue.....I still cannot get Satan's Hollow to play. I've tried the rom I have on my computer, one that I found online, and then 2 for the specific mame 0.78 that the NES Classic uses. None of them work. I don't care so much about that any more. I just want to figure out how to pick any of the 4 characters in a game instead of only the first character.

Any ideas ?

Because the "mod kernel" is not the original kernel. You need to flash the original kernel from the "Dump" folder. Hakchi2 made a backup the first time you lanched it.

Now you have a NES mini that "looks like" the original but the "menu" and the kernel are not the ones on a "new" console.

Best regards

Yes... you have to download the 2P versions of the game, where you can CHOOSE your character. It's been explained in eariler pages in this thread: just download the 2P version from the MAME 0.78 ROMSET (search MAME 0.78 ROMSET in archive.org and download tnmt2p.zip and similar).

Games that need this: TNMT, TNTM2, Gauntlet, Sunset Riders, The Simpsons among others.

Best regards.

Sorry, but then, why do you flash the modded kernel first? AFAIK, the original games are never deleted, they are "hidden" when you flash the mod kernel. If you flash the original kernel, they should appear again (I'm not sure but I imagine that they the extra files are mounted over the same directory, and then the original files are never deleted, just hidden and they appear if you unmount it).

I mean, probably just "formatting" the NES mini from the own NES menu (to clean saves) and flashing the original kernel should be enough...

But your procedure should work, it just has (AFAIK) an extra (unneeded) step.

With 1. and 2. I think I've cleaned up the memory by deleting the sandbox folder.

At first I just flashed the original kernel but I had come to doubt that the 700 roms were still left to unnecessarily occupy 300 MB of memory. So I reflash only 30 games occupying only 20 MB.

It may seem like a useless thing, but simply by flashing the original kernel does not think there is a full format of 300 MB of memory.

But there are multiple simpsons zips there. Which one do I need ? I was just reading something that I need to combine simpsons.zip and simpsn2p.zip to get to choose characters. Is that right ?

You can either:

1.- If you download "modern" roms for FBA, then you have to combine the files from simpsons.zip and simpsn2p.zip into a single file named "simpsn2p.zip". The order is very important: you have to "unpack" first "simpsons.zip" and then "simpsn2p.zip" over them (overwrite if needed).

2.- If you use the MAME 0.78 romset, then you can directly use simpsn2p.zip because the file is "already combined". You can find it by searching "MAME2003 Reference Set MAME0.78" (without the quotes) in google, then click in "SHOW ALL" -> roms.

Best regards.

I thought flashing the original kernel and doing a reset from the NES mini erased everything, but maybe you are right and it's a good idea to do it.

When I did my mini to erase everything:

I uninstalled all the hmods
I flashed the original kernal back to the mini
Uninstalled hakchi
Did a factory reset on the nes

It seemed to erase everything and back to new again. Then I flashed the custom kernal added hmods back and continued with adding my games back..

There's another game I'm wondering about. Quiz & Dragons is a 2 player game. That one, too, only lets me choose the first character out of four. But from what I've seen, there doesn't seem to be a 2 player rom.....so I'm out of luck, right ? If it makes any difference, Quiz & Dragons seems to be a CPS1 game....whatever that means. Do I use fb_alpha to run it ?

For the new version of hakchi2 (version 2.16), when I use the newly added FTP function to access the NESC, where in the directory structure can I find the config files for the arcade games (FBA, CPS2, and MAME2003)? I've saved the configs of the games (mainly video size) while using the NESC, and it seems to save them fine as they boot up with the right configs. I've looked everywhere but can't find them. I'm using the custom folder layout. I mainly want this so I can extract the configs and save them on my computer, and then create ones for other games without manually doing it using the NESC controller.

Can someone turn this .so file (commodore64 core) into .hmod? https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/linux/armhf/latest/mess2014_libretro.so.zip
Thanks a lot in advance
Playing with MESS and C64 is a... mess... after selecting the system to be emulated (c64 with his bios) you need to provide a rom or tape image to load and then you need to manually send the load command (which is LOAD "*",8,1) via keyboard (because C64 does not autoboot roms/images), and this seems not to be possible with standard MESS without code modification/additions (ex. virtual keyboard), so I think that testing C64 under MESS is just a waste of time at this time.

You can use DOSBox with VICE for MS-DOS (you can find the binary here), I am sure it will work much more easily (with the above mentioned keyboard problem because the NES Mini working version of DOSBox seems not to have keyboard emulation too, just mouse, but you can use scripts to make it to load games but... how to control them without a keyboard ? Joy support ? Maybe...). I tested under Windows DOSBox and only VICE MS-DOS 2.4 seems to work (under windows); you need to add CWSDPMI binaries in the same folder as x64.exe.

Another MS-DOS choice is PC64 v1.22, it works under DOSBox 0.74 (tested under windows only); another one is no$c64 but it is really for "devs" in my opinion.
