Hacking VitaShell 1.60 Released, USB Mounting for PSTV!

I finally got everything moved over from my 16gb Vita card to my flash drive. Games and apps work fine, BUT I can not get adrenaline to install at all.
Used both the adrenaline EasyInstaller, and the ePSP Bubble Installer. Had LocoRoco on my VitaTV before, but now it will not show up anywhere in the menus.
The EasyInstaller would see both LocoRoco and the ePSP bubble, however after it installs and reboots they are nowhere to be found.
Anyone got an idea of what could be going on? (has to be a bug with the USB drive implementation)

Guys ! go into vitashell and mount ux0 ... install all games once without moving (put vpk on the same drive) ... bubbles will stay after you've rebooted ... if you launch game later without ux0 mounted, it will just say corrupt data but keep the bubble ... then remount ux0 and it will work. This hack is the closest we can get to a cfw ... of only we can boot into this.

I can confirm it works just as I expected:

- I formatted my USB stick to fat32 using guiformat on windows.

- I then inserted the USB stick into the Vita TV and selected Triangle->mount uma0: to mount the USB stick as uma0:

- I went into the ux0:, selected triangle->mark all to select all files, then triangle->copy

- I went into uma0: and selected triangle->paste to copy everything from ux0: to uma0:

- after the copy was done (percentage and speed is displayed, how nice), I selected Triangle->mount USB ux0:

- I got some error and rebooted, restarted henkaku, and selected again "mount uma0:" then "mount ux0:" This time it worked.

- I selected Triangle->refresh livearea just to make sure all my bubbles were correct after migrating from memory card to USB stick like this. Vitashell said 0 livearea items were updated - good.

- I started some Vita games, emulators, and Adrenalin, as well as a PSP game inside Adrenalin (Wipeout Fusion) and it all works! I can see the LED on the USB stick flicker when it loads just as expected.

Bottom line: I successfully migrated from memory stick to USB stick and I didn't have to re-install anything, just copied all files over from ux0: to uma0: using the Vitashell mark all/copy/paste options

Any way to avoid detaching and reattaching the USB in VitaShell every time PSTV is rebooted? I'm afraid this will break my tiny USB drive eventually.

I am wondering the same about removing/replacing the USB in VitaShell on every boot. There needs to be an option for VitaShell to save the configuration, and another option to refresh in case any changes are made. This needs to be in the next update.

So far, nothing mentioned in this thread has resolved my issue with installing Adrenaline on the USB drive. My LocoRoco installation disappears on reboot with the USB, and the Adrenaline installer tries to reboot after an install.. meaning that it never completes the installation.
Not sure what else can be done.

1. Install Adrenaline while using the internal memory and an ePSP bubble(for ease of locating in ux0:/app, if you know the titleID, your game then)
2. After the installation is complete, copy that app folder to uma0:/app
3. Mount uma0: as ux0:
4. ???
5. Profit.

For the applications that require resets to install, this is the general methodology you would use.

EDIT: corrected minor typo in a partition listing.

i can mount and unmount, it will see the drive (64GB pendrive formated in exfat), ive tried copying everything from /app over to it and mounting again and refreshing, anything i have installed doesn't work when pendrive is mounted, usually an error or sometimes it says to update and bubbles for apps are blank/whited out. and i cant for the life of me figure out how to use mai dumps on the pen drive, i move all mai dumps i want from my PC over to /mai on the pendrive and mai dumptool wont see anything in that folder mounted or unmounted. cant seem to get psp iso's to work either with the pen drive,i dont know what im doing wrong. Ive got an 8GB memory card maxed out with legit stuff on it and i have no more room,i was really counting on using a pendrive to expand storage.

im sick and on handfuls of cold pills, maybe i shouldn't be messing with this stuff, but out of exhaustion, frustration and a last ditch effort, maybe some one can show me how to set this up properly ?

Hmm it works for me just fine (16GB usb stick). Only differences I see is that
- I used FAT32 filesystem. You might want to try FAT32. You can use guiformat.exe to format your stick. Careful with guiformat, it is easy to accidentally format your hard disk!
- I used a smaller stick (16 GB) but people have used >200 GB already, so that cannot be it.
- I copied EVERYTHING over to the stick using VitaShell 1.61 after I mounted it. Then refreshed live area and rebooted. Did you try doing that?

I keep my setup pretty vanilla.

Had a fresh and unused PSTV at 3.60, installed Henkaku, installed VitaShell, mounted USB drive and installed some games via MaiDump. All went well. So cool!

i dont think is a format issue, it reads the usb stick fine and all its directories formatted as exfat. did you install Maidump tool after you mounted the usb stick? or was it installed before? Maidump works for me installed before i did anything with the usb drive,it just doesnt see any game folders/content in the usb drives /mai folder i created on the drive, if i look at the folder with with vitashell, all the games are there on the usb drive, it seems like Maidump is trying to read from internal or vita memory card /mai cause there is nothing in it.

My setup is pretty "Chocolate" :P

So if i see this properly.
  1. turn on vita
  2. activate henkaku
  3. open vita shell
  4. mount usb
  5. copy ux0: contents to uma:
  6. Mount usb as memory card
  7. Refresh live area
  8. Reboot system
That is how the process work?

Every other step looks good, except 8. Do not reboot. Vitashell will hang for a sec or 2 after you mount usb as ux0, and then it'll switch over to vitashell showing the usb mounted as memory card. Once you refresh live area, you can start using it right away. You don't need to reboot, since that will reset the system and you'd have to do everything over again.

You have to reinstall maidump when you're running the pstv from usb. When you mount the usb drive as a memory card at ux0, it is equivalent to pulling out your existing memory card and putting a new one in. It is not going to have any apps installed on there other than henkaku exploits like molecular and vitashell. Make sure you reinstall all your extra apps for them to run properly again.

But the question is what kind of storage devices should be used? I tried this already with a Sandisk 64GB micro usb SDXC with usb adaptor. All it did was give me corrupted files and errors of rebuilding database

i started with 2 different kinds of sd card adapters and a samsung 64gb sdxc card, the one adapter wouldn't fit in the back of the pstv because the card reader was in the way of the hdmi out on the pstv, but the card and adapter were reading/writing and visible to windows no issue, i tried another adapter that would fit into the pstv and it wouldn't read the card, nor would windows. thats why i found a usb pen drive instead, check your adapter on your computer make sure its reading and writing and formatted to either fat32 or exfat.

My card read is fine, it works on my pc and anything else i use it for, and it was ex format. The problem is when i copy the files after i mount it into the system, it gets corrupted.
