Where did you get the fbalphaneo core? Not the 2012 one.
Is it version 0.2.97.39 or 0.2.97.30 ?
From here https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/linux/armhf/latest/

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

This is why we use D Skywalker's "mini" version. The difference in size is 3.33MB which is hardly noticeable.

1.61MB - fbalpha2012_neogeo
4.94MB - mame2003_mini

* 22.8MB - fb_alpha
* 24.3MB - MAME2003

The neo geo BIOS (neogeo.zip) is also self-contained and nicely separated from the games directory. If someone wants to do arcade (MAME) + Neo Geo I don't see how this could
be a bad option.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

We need more information about your setup. What core (.hmod) are you trying to setup to play MAME games on? It almost sounds like you forgot to edit your command line
settings in Hakchi (you need to change /bin/zip to /bin/<core_name> (ie. /bin/mame2003)
Dam is there a .so version of the mame2003mini. It's way smaller. I was talkin about the regular version which like you put is like 25mb.

Yeah no reason to ever use that FULL mame2003 core.. just use the mini.

You can find it here > https://github.com/DSkywalk/retroarch-clover/tree/master/core_modules_extra/mame2003_mini.hmod

BOTH mame2003_mini & fbalpha2012_neogeo play Neo Geo games.. the big difference is whether you run CPS1 vs CPS2 roms.

mame2003_mini supports CPS1 (older arcade roms)
fbalpha2012_neogeo supports CPS2 (newer arcade roms)

For the stuff I wanted, MAME2003 seems to do a great job.

I don't see the reason to mess around with fbalpha2012, since MAME2003 can be setup EASIER (using the new D Skywalker MAME2003_mini).. TONS
of NEO GEO support + other games. You only need to put the neogeo.zip in 1 main folder and everything recognizes it.

Full game list for MAME2003_mini > https://github.com/DSkywalk/retroarch-clover/wiki/mame2003_mini---game-list

As for your question, yes it's /bin/neo for your setup.

I watched nesito's mame2003 minimized tutorial video. He put the neogeo.zip bios file into a bios_template.hmod folder and the retroarch.hmod folder.

Is that necessary to put it into both? You mentioned you only have to put it into one folder.

Sorted mame now thanks guys it was the mame2003 I was missing from the command line.

Another 2 questions

I see it supports Caprice32 (amstrad). I can get it to start by loading the core but I can't get a disk to load

How do I organise the game folders, so all snes in a folder, mame in a folder etc

Ta

Not necessary at all. You literally just need it in ONE place for the MAME2003_mini.. it goes in the "system" directory
inside the bios template folder > bios_template.hmod/etc/libretro/system

Just d\l this > https://github.com/pcm720/retroarch-clover/tree/master/bios_template.hmod

and place neogeo.zip inside the system folder. Then just drag that file (bios_template.hmod or whatever you renamed it) to your
user_mods folder in Hakchi2.

That's literally all you do to setup the BIOS.

Then once you've done that.. just add the mame2003_mini.hmod to user_mods and install BOTH of the modules you just added!

Select the folder tab, you want the option ALL the way to the bottom "custom folders". When you click sync to sync your games
Hakchi2 will bring up a folder manager that lets you organize your folders however you wish (and add that great folder art we all love).

Thanks bro! I'm a developer so this stuff "should" come quick to me lol. It's a nice forum here though, unlike
some others I frequent.

Yeah, you d\l the entire folder.. don't do just a file.

So basically you want the .hmod folder from github.

Word all I need is that .so file. Then can stick it in my cores and replace the other mame and I'm good to go. Since I don't add them as mods that's why I need the .so file. Adding everything as mods is fine but don't need to.

The built in emulator supports FDS, you're probably not in Retroarch when you're playing it. You'd have to edit the command line for that particular game to use Retroarch if you need to.
I am in retroarch so I can run GB games. Unless… If I’m in retroarch, NESTOPIA and the GB emulator have to work toghether? I mean, the GB emulator is incorporated in retroarch? Maybe I have activated the GB emulator from retroarch and not NESTOPIA.
About the line argument, I got it. The game is Murasame Castle (FDS). I run the game with no problems but I need the retroarch main menu to change the side disk. Anybody knows other way for FDS games?
Thanks for your reply.

Does mame2003 (not mini) support both cps1 and cps2 games?

Question on a couple games...

Neo Geo Games:

Has anyone gotten "Nightmare in the Dark" to work? If yes, what core did you use and what size is nitd.zip? This same zip file that I have loads and plays fine in NeoRageX for windows.
I have tried fba, fba_neo, mame2003 and mame2003_mini and get the same result, black screen then back to the selection menu. nitd.zip size is: 17,462KB (17.0MB)

Windjammers and Baseball Stars 2 both work with no problems under fba.

then a mame2003_mini question:

strider, zaxxon and super zaxxon have no sound, is this a common problem with the emulation of these roms? or do I have defective roms? All other arcade roms I have installed have sound.

Lastly, another mame2003_mini question...

The Simpsons Arcade, I have both the 2 player and 4 player version. The only one I can get to run is the 4 player version and my character is always marge. I have read that the 2 player version allows you to choose your player, but you need the parent rom in the rom folder. So I have tried to add the 4 player game to the nes classic and then manually place the 2 player version in the folder and only the 4 player version works. I then tried to switch it and load the 2 player version and place the 4 player version in the folder and then the game just fails to load. Am I doing something wrong with this or is this not able to be accomplished on the nes classic?

Thanks in advance!

You don't put two separate ZIPs in the game folder, you need to have all the files from the two ZIPs in a single ZIP.

Extract the files from both Simpsons ROMs, and re-zip the entire group of files. Give the new ZIP the same name as the 2P ROM file, and then add that to Hakchi.

Try syncing just nightmare in the dark along with your 30 original to see if the game works. I just put 4 mame games on. Tmnt tmnt2 simpsons and sunset riders. When I synced those 4 with just my original 30 all 4 worked. Then when I made a mame folder and added them in with my other 700 games tmnt wouldn't work. The other 3 still did but tmnt would get black screen then back to gui. I then synced again with just the 4 games and my 30 and it worked again. So what I did was delete a gba game. Don't believe I needed to but I did just to create a little more space. Then I made my mame folder sync 2nd instead of 6th.and that worked. All 4 games work great! But to get simpsons working correctly you need to create a folder on your desktop and just name it simpsons and then unzip the 2 player roms contents and the 4 players contents in it. Then go into that folder and highlight everything in the folder and right click and create a new zip of both them together and name it what the 2 player rom name is. Then upload it. You can then use any character. Since that game is 17 mb it might have to have its own main folder tho.

So here's my mame2003minimized.hmod experience:

I had 17 mame roms loaded onto my NES. All working very well with the mame2003.hmod.

Really wanted Neo Geo Turf Masters and Windjammers to work, but wasn't with this core.

I took someone's suggestion to download the minimized 2003mame core. Did that. Did the bios_template, and put the neogeo.zip in there. Uninstalled old mame2003.hmod and installed new one as well as bios.hmod.

Synced the system. Went into Mame folder. Went right away to neogeo turf masters. Yay! the game loads......or wait.....why is it glitchy beyond belief. Unplayable...So I go to the other game Windjammers....loads.....and runs beautifully.

Check my other mame roms that were working well before this new mod. Wonderboy.....doesn't load....Double Dragon...doesn't load....Aliens...doesn't load......

Long and short of it, I uninstalled minimized version of mame2003 and reinstalled old version. All mame roms working again, except for turf masters and windjammers.....

Sigh........

I guess I'll figure another way to get those two games working. Tried the neogeo.hmod with no luck either.

I'm trying to get famicom disk system games running. I'm using nestopia in retroarch, i've mapped my button to switch sides. I'm stuck at this point, I can't
switch to side b. Does anyone have the same problem? Any tips to get it going?

Maybe because mamemini became new main mame core so you probably didn't change the path on those games. So windjammers works with mamemini but not with regular mame? Would you want to just have windjammers use mamemini and your other ones to use regular mame?

WindJammers worked with mamemini no problem. But not with regular mame.

The problem is that the command line argument is the same. /bin/mame2003

How would the game know which core for it to run if the command line was the same? Not sure it's possible.

You need a different bin for each core. If you allow me to teach you it is easy. You will see how easy it is to add and change your own cores and to have 2 cores for one system and decide the path. For example I have dkc series on snes pulling from snes10 and the rest of my snes games pulling from snes05. You can do it without adding mods. And when you see cores get updated you can just change it out real easy!
