It's been a while since I have been paying attention to the 3DS scene, so thought I'd see how things have gone.

What is the best 3DS Flash cart around these days? I am looking for something that is region free (is possible), can load roms direct from an SD card, and although it's not needed having DS loading support would be nice too. Also, is it possible to download e-shop games to be played on a flash cart, like how Wii WADs can be played on an SD card?

I had some variation of an r4 back in the day, and a Supercard DSTwo. I loved the DS2 but found the extra features like GBA playback were pretty bad. Not sure if this has been updated with their new card?

Sky3DS. You can't play Eshop games though, only games that have a cartridge release (.3ds).

If your 3DS is not at 11.3 and it is at 11.2 or less, then install A9LH. You can play games, including Eshop games, for free. It can also save you from bricking in the future.

An SD card is the best 3ds flashcard. Follow 3ds.guide.

To show how long it's been, pretty sure my 3DS is at version 4.3 or something... it's definitely no higher than 6.5. Last game I played on it was Bravely Default, so it was a while back.

Is there a way to install that still? From what I understood this stuff used web browser exploits, which will usually force an update if going online right?

Nope. It only forces an upgrade through the browser on a much later firmware than you are running.

I will see if I can look at it tonight then. Is there a guide as to how SD loading can be done? From what I remember reading, this wasn't a possibility.

For actual cards though, is there a reason that Sky3DS is considered the best if you aren't on the latest version?

It's the only way to pirate games on the latest version AFAIK.

If you are not on 11.3, please for the love of God use https://3ds.guide if you are going to install A9LH, don't use video tutorials.

The only SD loading we have right now is retro games like SNES, NES, GB, GBC, GBA, and very limited DS.

Are the emulators (i assume that's what they are) for the older systems any good? I remember being very disappointed with the DS2 ones in the day due to poor SNES and GBA playback. Also, to clarify, A9LH will let me load 3DS rips, right? I'd rather use official hardware than go to an emulator like Citra if I can help it.

Is it recommended to do system updates to my 3DS is it's an older version, and if so should I do it before or after looking at this? Will I run into problems with newer games not running, like if I had a retail cart?

With the DS emulators, we also get Atari 2600 :)

Ok so I looked it up and read through, this sounds amazing. So basically when I want to play a game, I install a "cia" file and it's run from the 3DS home screen like a Wii WAD, right?

I guess all I need to know now is whether I should perform any version system updates or not.

Is it like a PS3 where I can revert back to an older firmware or upgrade to a newer cfw version when CFW is installed without losing the hack support?
