Okay maybe I'm missing something really obvious here but I have a recent nightly, installed as launchable apps in the Wii U's Homebrew Launcher (exploit loads through the MP4 browser hack and I already have Loadiine and stuff like HID2VPAD and Mocha installed and working) and the SNES, Genesis and GBA RetroArch emulators load... but don't see any of the ROMs in my SD card's retro ROMs folder. Even those in ZIP files don't show (this was something I did when I was tinkering with the RetroArch Rejuvenate early Vita ports when I had a problem with Genesis Plus GX). Any hints here please?

Try putting them into "downloads" (sub folder in retro arch folder on sd root) and open them with "load content".
Try it with a SNES rom as a sfc, smc and zip file to be sure.

Good shout there dude, thanks. Changing folders and zipping things up using store worked for the quick testing I was able to do for Snes9x 2010 and Genesis Plus GX. The emulation quality is great actually, video quality better too as not running in Wii mode, doesn't seem as crashy as Wii RetroArch was either.

Funny how little homebrew quirks can be solved isn't it? Earlier I was trying to put some channel forwarders on my girlfriends Wii for Nintendont and USB Loader GX and YAWMM or whatever it's called kept crashing when going into the WAD folder. Deleting all the vWii WADs and renaming to 8.3 style filenames solved it and installed fine.

Okay then, those in the know. Any way of getting the Wii U's GameCube dual USB adapter working under RetroArch? I'd like to be playing titles with my WaveBirds ideally. With the HBL2HBC forwarder channel I can jump straight into Nintendont with the WaveBird (for the first game at least, usually Mario Kart: Double Dash!! to be fair) so something similar for RetroArch would be great. I'm currently using a wired GameCube controller with a MayFlash adapter on a Wiimote as a workaround.

There's no support for USB controllers as far as I know. You'll need to ask the dev team.

Thanks for the replies.

Ah. Right as it happens there is a way to do this, I just figured it out.

  • Loadiine GX2 features HID2VPAD support built in, which when enabled in the options works from boot time, launchable from forwarder on Wii U Home Menu when using the specially modified build that allows this.
  • All I did was make a folder for - in this test case - Genesis Plus GX called [RETROARCH] Genesis Plus GX [RAGP01], placed a folder called code inside this and copied the genesis_plus_gx_libretro.rpx taken from most recent nightly into this directory and tried it.
  • As long as Retroarch is set to have input one as the Wii U Gamepad the UI is controllable from the WaveBird and yes, the games are playable this way too.
  • No HOME button support but that's not a big deal.
  • Shows up in Loadiine GX2 just like any other game, and I suppose wouldn't be difficult to make cover art and background for this either.
  • Using hotkey binds in Retroarch you can, for example, assign the C stick (which is then mapped to the right analog stick of the gamepad) to have load state, save state, game reset and menu toggle options. And/or remap the buttons for better usability suited to the GameCube layout.

So yeah. This is a nice compromise, totally playable and would work for SNES9x/mbga too. I'd call that a win.

Need someone's help. I installed retroarch, the stable version (1.41) and later the latest nightly (3/7 version 1.50). I made sure that the CFW was started beforehand and both versions worked initially and ran the Mame rom fine. When I closed retroarch and started it again later, I got the error code 160-2203 "problem with system memory". I shut the the Wii U and started over and same error message. I uninstalled both versions (everything) from the sd card and reinstalled both versions and the same thing happened. It worked initially but not again after that. What am I doing wrong here? Is there a problem with Retroarch? Is there a specific version (nightly) that I should use that I won't get this error? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah, that's one reason I haven't used RetroArch Wii U in a while, those random System Memory issues don't bode well, I'll report it on GitHub, hopefully it isn't serious.

I gave up downloading and testing the nightly builds, it' s really frustrating...

Yeah, I haven't played RA Wii U in over a month, I mean, I want to report the bug, but I don't know how to reproduce it, my only bet is having me record me messing around, spam-loading cores in succession, loading a lot of ROMs in sequence. I don't know.

So you are saying that this is an Retroarch issue and it's happening in all versions, even in the 1.41 stable version? No workaround or resolution to the error?
