Hi. I don't own an Xbox 360, but I do have a question regrading the feature where you can install retail games onto the hard drive off a disc. I would like to know how much of the game is actually saved on the console when you do this. A friend who does own a 360 told me only a portion of a game is saved. I would like to confirm whether or not this is true. With the way Xbox words it on their website, this idea sounds false. I would just like a definite yes or no. Thanks.

The entire game is installed on the HDD. It is to cut back on putting less strain on the DVD drive. You still need the disc in the drive. Unless you RGH it.

all of the game is saved. the system needs a game inserted for authentication. in fact, if u have a jtag/rgh/rjtag, u can use an app called nxe2god to remove the authentication flags allowing u to run the game without a disc. hope that helps.

yes, games on demand (god) games r the games u download from xbox live. they're like ones u rip on the console except u don't have to have a disc inserted. I believe this mistake is how ripped games were hacked.

yes, 360 games r like wii games in that they're padded to a specific size, so a lot of it is dummy data. I wasn't aware that they originally ripped the dummy data as well. there r 3 or 4 different sizes a 360 game can be. 7.05GB, for example, is one of them. :)

At first game installs were rather big. As I recall, they later improved the process to remove the unneeded dummy data. Some games ended up dramatically smaller.
"Dummy data"... you mean just unnecessary stuff left on the disc?

Basically, if you got a large harddrive (you can upgrade them quite easily with HDDHackr and a 250/320/500 GB WD Scorpio Blue 2.5" hdd) it's best to install all the games.
It cuts back on loading times severely and makes the 360 a lot quieter.

and, it's cheaper. ;)

u just need a torx screw driver (non-security). I've forgotten the gauge. there r two gauges - one for the outer shell; another for the black screws inside the hdd shell. I think it's 8 and 6, but I can't recall really. it's been a while since I've opened up an hdd. just be careful with the spring that holds the eject button. if ur not careful, the spring might fly off, and then u'll have a heck of a time finding it. :P

I forgot, the controller uses torx security. u need a small enough (width-wise) torx security screwdriver to get into those holes at the bottom of the controller. I just recently changed the dpad in one of my controllers since the original was developing a hairline crack - the adjustable dpad is crap! I had to use a flat head screw driver to get the screws in those holes since my screw driver base was too fat.
