We will update the post if more footage/info is revealed during the event about the game. But we can rest assured that the remake is indeed a reality!

No way this releases 2017 like no chance at all!
Unless it's going to be like 18 episodes or something.
There's supposedly going to be more info about the release date announced tomorrow or so, but yeah everyone is basically saying Holiday 2017 for the first episode. I highly doubt these screenshots are as far as they've gotten, the game's been in development since 2015 which, for Squeenix, is more than enough time to make a "full game" episode for release at the end of the year.

-"We love ff7!"
-"fine, we'll modernize it"
-"YAAAAAAAAAA
-"but we're changing genres"
-AAYYoh. umm. well. okay. I guess."

The genre change is annoying, but that's what they do now I guess. I'll give it a go regardless.

And I guess "materia" is used instead changing the options based on materia equipped? Yeah, I can live with that I guess.

Oh so its a Final Fantasy 15 reskin. No thanks. I really tried to like FF15, and I genuinely did enjoy parts of it, but the battle system SUCKED. It was just mash the attack button until you win; no strategy just mindless slashing. Dodging and parrying never really worked or even helped that much when they did. I found myself just walking away from fights because I just didn't want to do it anymore. Also holy crap that games the epitome of empty open world games.

Anyway rant over, I'll probably pass on this unless it ends up being different.

Wow, I completely forgot that they're using that release model. I wonder just how well/poorly they'll end up handling that.
Indeed they do. And not only that. One of the lead designers said that there won't be "only some months" between the chapters... So prepare to get, like, one chapter per year. Or in other words - Ff7 Remake remastered complete collection for ps5 in 2020.

It would be crazy if they could develop both a turn based an action combat system but that would probably put them over budget. Either way this game looks insane! and finally Squares art team can shine and not be held back by luminous. Game like this is why I bought a mother fucking PS4 nigguh

Seeing people grumble about how FF7 is going to be released in parts, but I feel people need to remember: Final Fantasy 7 was a three-disc game. The end of each disc marked the end of a major act in the story. If the remake is split up like the discs, then with some luck, the remake will play out just fine.

Sure, the original FF7 was sold as a complete package. But it was made at a time when Squaresoft had all the money in the world to throw at it, and the costs of game development were comparatively smaller to what they are today. Realistically, this is the only way Square-Enix would have any chance of rebuilding a game as large as FF7 to match today's standards, without either severely underpaying employees or sending themselves half-way bankrupt in the process.

I don't understand why people hates where this game is going through; but I am not entitled with their opinions too so I guess we should just learn to accept change as the game evolves. It may not turn out to be the classic FF7 turnbased game we wanted but ever since the tech demo for PS3 I already hoped for the remake to happen with similar features such as the Crisis Core battle system. Looking forward to the next update hoping to see some footage aswell since this one looked like its pre rendered yet.

I'm glad they did 15 before. Sure they'll learn from their mistakes and change the battle system in some ways.

And by the way: Am I the only one who thinks Crisis Core was bad?

Ya know, I guess I'm 1 of the few here who likes ffvii and ffxiii so my opinion may not matter but i honestly don't give a dam what others are saying, I freaking love what I'm seeing of this game so far, I hope at least a demo gets out soon like ffxv did.

This looks pretty naff tbh. I don't quite know what I was expecting, but I'd hoped it'd be a modern take on the isometric style the PS1 FFs used. This just looks like FFXV graphically. :(

Count me in the bunch that isn't happy with the gameplay changes. I really would have been all over a graphical overhaul that stuck to the turn-based system of the original with maybe some new end game sidequests to tackle. Oh man, that would have been fucking amazing. I doubt I'll buy this.

only reason it was across 3 disc is the cut scenes were too big to fit on one disc. beyond different cutscenes, most of the data is the same across disc (mostly)

the rest of your argument is fine, but the three disc thing isn't really an argument. maybe as a "well the story will make sense at least", but not as a tecnhical standpoint argument.
