Yes, we've been testing it with success as well. We still recommend Luma3DS via A9LH as the best way to play our patch. If you haven't updated to 11.3 yet, you can still install CFW...
I stated I was 11.3U already so that's not an option, nor one I wanted to take (perhaps I will on a secondary n3DS if I ever get one). For now I want to see how viable playing DGS patched is for HBL-only users, in case someone who had already updated to 11.3 just stumbled onto this project now or else if someone like me consciously does not want to install CFW.

Ah, sorry, that wasn't directed at you but all people reading this. Support for HANS on new firmwares is always a gamble, thats why we recommend using Luma3DS/A9LH just to be safe.

As a HBL-only user I'll chime in to say that DGS is working in HANS again on O3DS 11.3U with Soundhax and *hax2.9 alpha. It's been varied as to whether DGS would work with HANS in the past, so I just want to see if anyone (or everyone) else was having success with this latest build of hax/HANS.

It works for me, running both a cart and digital copy, but I'm running it through the hbl-launcher cia so that could give different results (11.3 luma, relatively recent build).

It's done when it's done. We decided against giving any estimates, because if we can't meet them, we'd have a shitstorm. It's not like we're slacking off, mind you - we have some technical issues we still need to fix before release. We're working on them. Believe me, no one wants them fixed more than we do...

I know I won´t change your opinion but ..

... if you give out an estimate and be open about it -> this means if you see you won´t meet the deadline you let us know beforehand that you have to postpone the release because this and that I can assure you that nobody would start a shitstorm :)

You make the wrong assumption that everyone is as mature as you are right now about this. And even if there was no shitstorm - people always treat estimates like deadlines.

But like, Episode 1 coming before the end of February, right? I can't be wrong twice!
Let me try to estimate this. It look them 9 months for them to get demo done. The demo is from part 2,which means that episode 1 is basically done with translation. Episode 2,3,4, and 5 are much longer than episode 1 by atleast x2(usually). They finished translating the basic stuff(not including story) around September. It has been 5 months since then. This means that episode 2, 3, 4, and 5 will all take about a year to release. Thus, the guy who predicted its full release in 2020 was about correct. Probably a year or two later though.

And here you go, mike4001 [emoji6]

We did NOT work 9 months on the Demo, it was only a few weeks. I had already worked on the Demo for research, so when it became evident that we couldn't solve our technical problems before the end of the year, we decided to translate the Demo to give you guys at least that. We originally planned to release the Demo on Christmas, but couldn't make that - so we worked very hard between Christmas and New Years to make it on time.

Again, you're making the wrong assumption that translation is the the only thing that needs to be done. It's a very big part of it, but right now, it's not the stopper for Episode 1. Once that's out, the following releases should be quicker.

We were able to push out the Demo, because it did not suffer from the issues we have with the main game...

Edit:
Oh, and Episode 1 is a little longer than it usually is in other AA games...

Can I just go on record saying that this is a labor of love and personal time, and I for one am grateful regardless of the length of time it takes you? For real, take your time. This is a gift, not a right, and exercising patience and giving support and verbal affirmation is the least we can do for you guys!

Thank you very much to the dev team, to everyone else it'll be done when it's done :D

It is a labor of love :) We really love this game, that's why we want to make it accessible for a larger audience. I promise we're doing our best to deliver soon - but I can't give estimates, sorry.

An off-topic question
What tools do you use to edit Japanese games? And what operating system? I'm trying to get the files out of a Japanese CIA and I can not

That depends on the game. Ace Attorney games on 3DS (DD, DGS, SoJ) use CAPCOM's MT Framework, just like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil. Other games often use Nintendo's SDK formats, their own in-house engine or a third-party engine like Unity. So unless you're working on MT Framework games, I guess we can't help you much. Which game would you like to translate?

This is great news, I do have CFW, but I'd rather get an actual cartridge and use HANS to play it. Thanks for the information!

Could someone on the translation team let me know how they go about converting the TEX files for modification?

I ask because I'm creating a 3D Ace Attorney case maker for Windows, and the tool that I currently have from the TurnaboutTools GitHub repository sadly fails on a lot of textures for Spirit of Justice, even once I add etc1tool from the Android SDK. I was hoping that maybe there'd be a chance whatever the team is using for GAA would also work on SOJ, though I also plan to add GAA models/music/etc to my engine.

Thanks in advance!

There is a tool called scarlet app or something like that that converts tex to png, but not backwards

There's also an Engine that already does what you're describing. It can render the models used by the game.

Is it possible to use the same process used to patch the demo to patch the physical copy, or do I have to use HANS/some other process? Once the patch is out, I mean

The process will be a little different, but you will be able to re-use the dumped font if you still have it from creating the Demo CIA. Details will follow once we relase.

Oh really? Huh, any idea what it's called? I looked high and low for one and thought no one had ever done a 3D case engine before.

EDIT: Nevermind, I suppose PWLib is capable of doing so. I had thought that they only meant 3D models for examination.

Oh well, guess I'll continue converting all the models for fan art purposes. :P

Oh great, I didn't know about Scarlet. It seems to work for SoJ textures. What is this engine you're talking about, Uwabami?

I'm also interested in the converting process for MOD and TEX files in Spirit of Justice (made a thread about it). Since the game is based on MT Framework like DGS, maybe you know a way to export models and textures to common formats?

Like Irastris said, PWLib. I'm not sure if KSA has published it yet, but I saw screenshots of it working. He's also your best bet if you want to import/edit MOD files.
